Speaking of soccer, my parents got my son a Dribble Up Soccer ball system. It’s an app and stand or tripod where your phone or tablet camera tracks the special soccer ball while you do drills and skills challenges. There are live classes - like Pelaton! - where you compete against other views for a scoreboard. My son loves it, as he’s competitive and wants to beat everyone. Great way to get exercise during the winter.

The live classes cost $10 a month, but the first month is free and there are free on-demand classes available.

I would be having the entire daycare over to play outside every weekend.

I can't help but notice how much more advanced our kid is than our friends three kids who don't go to daycare (and are all older). It's really obvious when they get together and play.

Daycare was huge. And mine hasn't been there in almost a year. He was there from about 9 months old until 2.5 years old - I feel like thats a huge stage for proper socialization. He learned so many basics there that became second nature.

When he goes back in a few weeks I'm sure it will still help but I doubt it will have as much of an impact as that first round

Couldn't agree more. Our daughter was leaps and bounds beyond kids that were home. Which makes sense because they have a "curriculum" set up for them from the time they start.

Conversely, our son is 15 months and is definitely behind where our daughter was. He's also been home since the pandemic started. It has my wife freaked out but I'm really not worried terribly about it. He has shown plenty of advances in other areas

I wouldn't worry. I feel like at age 6 or 7ish they all levelset again.

High school basketball got started in my area last night. My daughters team went 0-27 from three (she contributed 6 of the missed). And this isn’t a case of kids throwing it off the backboard; just all run outs and back rim shots. They still won by 30, and are probably a top 5 team in the state, but damn, that was tough to watch.

Interesting. They've paused all high school sports and conditioning here for another week or so.

Are you able to watch in person?

There are 25 “spectators” allowed and 15 “support personnel.” That is outside the players, coaches, and refs. We went full remote for this week, but sports were allowed to continue because they’ve already been together in pods, according to the school board.

0-27 from 3 and won by 30? Did the other team consist of players solely under 5 ft tall? Either the rebounding margin was staggering or the opponent’s turnover total was. I’ve officiated my share of mismatches, especially on the girls side, but this one would have been something to see.

We actually didn’t rebound all that well either, lol. The other team was bad. Lots of turnovers. We were actually down 4 after first quarter, then started pressuring them and it was all downhill from there. By the third quarter, the missed threes were just comical. It was reminiscent of the Rockets in the conference finals a few years ago.

My wife and daughter traveled to the Poconos this weekend and rented a cabin with the godmothers of each of our children (they are basically the only people outside of our parents we've seen the whole quarantine). First time she's been away from our 1 year old son since he was born.

That just leaves the little guy and me all weekend. Please pray that he doesn't choose this weekend to have a sleep regression.

I had a severe migraine this morning and was dealing with it on the couch, prince kept checking on me, asking how my head felt, and giving me hugs every few minutes. These are the moments I need to remember when he throws his three-nager tantrums/boycotts haha

Those moments are so wonderful. My 7 year old girl has been calling me "bud" for the last several years. She told my wife this morning that "she needs to FaceTime 'bud' and say good morning".

I'm not going to be a father that does well with the teenage phase where she likely is going to hate me for a time. I can already see myself struggling.

My daughter’s daycare got their first covid case last week. Apparently they were alerted of a positive result on Friday and notified all the parents of kids in that class with info. Today they sent out an email to all the parents explaining the situation and their protocols.

Someone took it upon themselves to reply all...

They named a kid that (according to her 4 year old) came in to daycare sick and was allowed to stay. She went on a rant about how she has a kid with asthma, so she takes it seriously. She’s never ever (EVER!) sent in a sick kid and she was so upset that someone else would and put everyone in danger. I got my popcorn ready, and my wife smartly emailed the director explaining how bcc works on emails to avoid this problem moving forward.

The dad who has his kid called out very calmly emailed back that it was not his kid or his family and he wishes the family that was afflicted well. Boring...

I have a feeling I’m going to have to deal with these kind of parents when organized sports and real school starts. I take everything my tells me with a grain of salt because she’s 3. Who wouldn’t? Apparently there are parents that take their kids words as gospel truth.

Uh, yeah, how does a daycare not know to use bcc?
