Welp, my wife informed me tonight that my daughter got her period. We were hoping to get one more year before having to deal with this.
When this happens with mine, my plan is to look at my wife stone faced and tell her good luck.

Be sure to tell your daughter that you told a bunch of randos on a Penguins message board. She'll love that.

This is the thing I've been dreading since the second I found out she was a girl.

How old?

Oh man, your daughter is close to mine in age, right? She will be 10 in October. The transition from little girl to full blown almost teenager is happening too quickly.

Yep, turned 10 in December. Apparently, a few of her friends (all the same age) are going through it right now. I was totally ignorant, and thought this wasn't a thing until 13ish, so I was a bit surprised.

Uhh. Yes. I thought this was a 12-13 thing. Not a barely 10 thing

For the past week, my kid has been waking up saying he's afraid of the ceiling fan, and the ceiling fan is going to fall on him. Meanwhile, it hasn't moved in like 3 years. He got up like 7 times in the span of an hour last night around 12-1AM. So naturally, he was very upset this morning and couldn't get out of bed. Effin Toddlers, man.

My oldest got hers at 12 (at school), and while mentally prepared didn't have anything on hand and was too embarrassed to ask anybody for help. My younger daughter just turned 11 and as of now the only thing she has is the complete moodiness :)

There a reason they normally do the puberty chat in 5th grade (unless you are in Florida but that's for the political thread...). I think when we did it, 10% of our class had already gotten their periods.

These girls are all in fourth grade, FWIW. My wife has been talking to her about it, and she wasn't freaked out or anything. In fact, she told me last night that I had to 'respect this woman', lol.

I had no idea what you were referencing until just now, after coming across an article about it. Just, wow.

Yeah, that's the other thing, the moodiness. Our daughter has gotten a bit crankier as she approaches puberty

And let's be honest, this happens around this age regardless (I have sisters).

Yinz are a bunch of goobers. It’s not a big deal unless you make a big deal out of it. Grow up.

After a 3 day 2 night stay at children's were finally home and baby Mac had one hole in his head closed and two opened up  cleft palate was closed, ear tubes inserted. Childrens hospital really is a good place to be but I feel for those workers. It's got to be so depressing coming into work to take care of sick kids who constantly cry and scream because they have no other way to express themselves.

Mac, that's great news about little guy. Hope he recovers quickly.

Our son was approved for preschool intervention services through the SD. The therapist that works with him is convinced he is not autistic, but he is just far behind his peers. He has come a long way but he still is not doing stuff like asking questions, carrying on a conversation, etc. I'm still being optimistic that it will continue to improve, but man this is stressful and upsetting as a parent all at once.

Love him to death, I think a lot of the frustration stems from seeing a lot of intelligence and brightness in there... He's got a great personality, is a lot of fun, and we actually had him mostly potty trained before most boys his age. Which is why I'm hopeful that once we get over this hurdle he will be ok.

He's also about to get tubes a second time (as well as possibly getting his adenoids out). The hearing stuff really put him behind the 8 ball

On another note, I was reminded that Odyssey of the Mind is still a thing. Man I loved OM back in the day, but doesn't seem as widespread as it used to be

There were a few from my class that were in OM. One guy is the Director of Product Management at Google and the other is a gastroenterologist at UPMC.
