My kids memory recall never ceases to amaze me. Today he had a face painter at school for an end of summer carnival they had. I was showing him a picture they posted on their private Facebook page and he said "daddy that's the girl that was at <our friends kids> birthday party!"... He recognized the face painter girl almost 3 months later.

Yeah, my kids do that all the time. An offhand remark I made in 2012 about Thomas the Tank Engine is recalled at dinner the other night. Like, really?

It was during a trip to a railroad in Bryson City, NC which featured Thomas and Friends for a few weeks each summer. The kids got to ride on "Thomas" and play with a bunch of Thomas trains, etc. I said something about James being cooler than Percy, which my kids found to be hilarious back then. I have no recollection of the conversation. I do remember the trip being fun, and that's about it. My older son was six at the time and remembered that. It's nuts, and he does that sort of thing all the time. Now I have to know what it was

I think with a name like Sir Topham Hat, you have to keep a certain figure to go with the name. Kind of like Santa Claus.

Was super proud of little c2i last night. Went to our first non-infant swimming lesson. She hates water in her face. She starts screaming in the bathtub when she gets water splashed in her face... 'TOWEL!!! I NEED A TOWEL!!!!". She did everything she was asked to last night in the pool and one thing was jumping into the pool to the instructor. When she did it, she got some water in her face. He popped her up out of the pool and she just wiped the water away and kept on truckin. It was great. She's stoked to go back tomorrow.

My daughter hit a turning point a couple weeks ago on vacation when it comes to water. She was also terrified, and didn't like water in her face at all during baths. On vacation, she gets up enough courage to go in the pool at the hotel and has a blast.
Couple days later at the beach, and she won't go anywhere near the water. I carry her out and she's clinging to me like a barnacle. I start splashing her legs with water, then dipping her toes, then we're up to her torso. Next day she couldn't wait to go in the water. The entire drive home if she saw a creek or river crossing, she'd point and say "Ocean!!"

Yeah... little c2i is 4 now. Last year at this point, she would have been freaking out, I feel. Like at Idlewild and Delgrossos, she actually enjoyed her own tube on the lazy river. That was not the case last year at all.

My boys loved swim class. Both started at age 3. My oldest got a little separation anxiety the first couple times, but had no problem with the water itself. My daughter is a completely different animal. Even the potty training we're going through is not the same as it was with the boys. No problem going #1, but #2 is a challenge.

Luckily I'm not having any more kids and won't have to re-live infant days ever again.

Water progression is fun, with the final stage (IMO) being 'swim with wildlife'. My daughter jumped into my arms last year when we tried to do that, but this year embraced it and got right up close with literally everything in the water. Next up, snorkeling in 5-10' deep water.

Those progression stories are awesome and such a great feeling.
Kids are awesome. We were always planning to leave Outer Banks at 415. Our son woke up at one and never went back to bed He was in a happy mood for the nearly eight hour travel time (no, he barely slept then either), took a three hour nap when he got home, played outside in the water and then went to bed at 630.
The fact he is two and wasn't freaking out from 1 am until bedtime is insane and I'm thankful.

As a family that has nearly no immediate family nearby, the newborn stage suuuuuuuucckkkkkkkked. Always exhausted, always cranky, and no one nearby to help, even for a few hours. I never want that again.
And if/when my little one goes to have a family, I plan to retire or semi retire and move close to help out. I don’t want her to have to go through what we did/are with her.

I can't believe that it's already the first day of school today. Wife has to go in to work to onboard a new employee, so I'll be home alone for the first time in who knows how long.

I was visiting the in-laws in Cleveland this weekend. My BIL and SIL are both teachers, they both started last week with in-service and training and students start this week. Apparently they start after labor day every year.
