Joking aside, I’m actually being serious about the scooter thing. That’s the best way to translate from marching to striding.

Do they still use those walker looking things to teach kids to skate?

I think some places do. We just threw our kids out on the ice with a helmet on and let them flop around a bit

His speed tripled last night from the time he stepped on the ice to the time he stepped off. But at triple speed he was still kind of slow out there. My kid eventually grew out of the chop step skating approach. Just suddenly decided it wasn't the way to go.
My mom takes him to lessons, so this was the first time I'd seen him skate in about 2 months. I guess I was expecting him to be a little better than he was. He still had a blast and that's all that matters. But for having lessons I was expecting a little more progress.

It sounds like good advice and I will use it lolJoking aside, I’m actually being serious about the scooter thing. That’s the best way to translate from marching to striding.

Yeah Nevin and Delmont both have them. We were at Nevin last night. He did a learn to skate last winter. It was a huge class that didn't really help much (it was only like $5 a session so I wasn't complaining). We found a private instructor and she's taught him really well. But it's $30 a session (a half hour) and after like 10 he's better but still slow and timid. It'll come, I'm sure. Last night was the first time with gear on. He was in his glory and that's all that matters. I can't take him to skate as much as I would like to.Do they still use those walker looking things to teach kids to skate?

Mac - going through the same thing with my kid. What meow said worked to get him from marching to "scootering" but he still doesn't have the continuous back and forth motion. It's like... push left, pause, push right, pause... frustrating. I got him a private lesson because he out grew the learn to skate, and after the first one she tried to tell me to have a lift put on his left skate to help with pronation. He's five... his right foot is his strong foot... obviously he's going to struggle with his left as he gains strength.

One of the benefits of being a child is that it's a much shorter trip to the ground, with both less time to build up speed and less mass (and therefore momentum) to deal with when you get there.
My learn-to-skate effort back in law school ended with broken bones. I still don't know how to skate.

He goes for his next lesson next Friday and I'm going to ask if he can carry a stick with him. The stick at least gets him in the hunched position instead of straight up and will force him to push instead of just March/walkMac - going through the same thing with my kid. Trying to think of gift ideas for Mother's Day. I got a baby outfit that says Happy First Mother's Day, but it wasn't that expensive. I already got her jewelry recently for her birthday and Christmas so looking for something different.

She will be nearing 3 months postpartum, right? Get her something that is solely focused on her and giving her a break, not really focused on her being a mom. One idea is to get her a massage, facial, or whatever spa thing she might enjoy. And you watch your daughter. For this to be a "break" though, she will have to feel not guilty leaving the house, know that the baby is taken care of, so she can relax.Trying to think of gift ideas for Mother's Day. My daughter is in a co-ed league (8-10 year olds).. Their tournament was today. She scored five goals in four games, including the golden goal in the championship match. Beautiful little opposite way flick that fooled the keeper.
Proud dad here. Pretty sure she nutmegged one boy

I usually make something with the kids too, like hand prints on a canvas or something.

I don’t know where this goes, but my rich aunt always buys baby meow some American doll **** for Christmas and her birthday. This year, she gave her a gift card so she could pick someone out that interested her. We have an American girl store in one of the malls in Charlotte so I took her there this morning. My. Lord. What an absolute crock that whole brand is. The cheapest thing there was like $40 for a swimsuit for a doll… A god damn baby doll. And the customers that were in there all seemed like trust fund babies.

I think I've mentioned it before, but my 4th grader is basically his grade's athletic director. He brings the sports equipment to school, including flags so that they can play school friendly version of flag football. It's gotten to the point that when kids in other grades are rewarded with an extra recess they request his so that they can play.
Well for the second time this year he ran himself into a damn tetherball pole on an out-route and had to be evaluated for a concussion by the school nurse. I don't know how I'm going to explain to him that being a coach/AD is going to be the only thing in his future if he can't get some boundary awareness.
