My parents and in-laws have been harping on us to put together a registry. FINE! We registered at Target and Amazon and put everything and anything on both, so go crazy. For some reason this couldn't wait until even halfway through the pregnancy?

hmmm...you may want to be more thoughtful and just tell them to wait while you get it in order. you could end up with a lot of crap you dont need. and this ain't a wedding registry. you actually use this stuff

Ding ding ding. The wedding registry you are just scanning a bunch of dumb sht like those things that slow-boil your food. The baby registry stuff can seriously make your life 10x easier.

And if people ask at work, tell them you want a diaper/wipes shower. That might be better for a second child, but we each had one where we worked and we didn't have to buy wipes or diapers for almost six months. That was awesome.

Target gift cards = best baby show gift.

They're both looking at the big things (cribs, carseat/carriers, stroller, pack and play), and I guess they want to have time to find good deals on stuff? I don't know. Also, I just did a little googling.... apparently our current register isn't anything compared to most. I think we registered for something like 50 items. Most people (from what I've googled) register for well over 100 things.

I know it's rude, but I want to say, "how bout you just give me money and I'll go buy stuff?"

registry suggestion: get a nose frida snot sucker

it is disgusting and it makes you question your life decisions, but taking a straw and manually sucking out your child's boogers is THE way to do it. do not try anything else. it will just make you frustrated. repulsed is better than frustrated, as far as parenting goes.

Really? even the little bulb sucker things? Those don't work?

+1 on the nose frida. That thing works like you wouldn't believe, and you won't have to worry about mold.

the bulbs are awful. they seem viable until you have to stabilize a miniature screaming crazy person's head and remove chunks of solids. then they're worthless.

also works if your 2 year old shoves playdough up their sinus cavity and there's no other way to get it out

It doesn't work if your 2 year old shoves a lego piece into their ear, however.

Missed opportunity to tell grandparents to chill out and this is your kid. You don't get many of these, but you have to jump on each one of them.

I once extracted a unpopped popcorn kernel from my youngest’s nose by making him blow his nose for 15 minutes straight. He also stuck a googly eye so deep into his ear canal we had to take him to his pediatrician to fish it out with a rubber hook.
I didn’t have these issues with my first two.

Our pediatrician used a syringe (no needle) and water to flush out the Lego piece. I was worried, because she said that if she couldn't get it out that way, I'd be going to an ENT the next morning (would have gone to the ER, though).

Thirded on the nose frida. We had an electric one for the first child because I was grossed out at the thought of sucking snot out of my child's nose. Nose frida wins by a mile.

For anyone that is having a child, register at Amazon and Target (and other places, if you want). We just got our baby box from Amazon which came free with making a registry. It had diapers, wipes, all sorts of samples, a swaddling cloth with a cool hedgehog on it, a little duckie onsie, a few different types of pacifiers, and some other stuff. Target apparently does something similar, but much smaller and you pick it up at the store, which we'll be doing in the near future.

It'll be nice to add more stuff to the registry after this Friday. We find out boy or girl. "But, c2i, everything should be gender neutral!" Shut up, I don't care... and neither does a child at an age they'll never remember.

Wouldn't the argument for gender neutrality be that it would be twice as easy to give away to someone later? Or reuse yourself for Rd. 2?

Sure, but if I want to dress my (potential) little girl in a pink frilly onsie, I'm going to do so, dammit.
