Pfft, letting her pick it out herself is definitely better than letting me pick.

We had our 15 month appointment today... 60th percentile in height, 91st in weight (girl has some thicc thighs), and I feel very lucky to be her dad. She's the sweetest little thing. Barely any stranger danger has set in yet. She started laughing and playing with the doctor as soon as she walked in the door. The doc asked us if she knows a few words yet, we said "yeah, about 20-25 so far...and signs for about 10 more" and her eyes got big. She goes "that's closer to 2 year old levels than 15 month old... how about body parts?" "Yeah, nose, toes, mouth, ears, belly, knees, eyes, head... she knows all of those" "I think you're very blessed to have such a sweet, smart baby."

And for the shots, she didn't cry... she just grunted at the nurse, almost as to say "hey... knock that off." I think we'll keep her.

Wish my kid liked the doctor like that. Mine hates one of the nurses. Immediately starts crying the moment he sees her. Haha

Yeah, the doc said that at this age, she's used to screaming, kicking kids... mine just wanted to boop the doctor's nose.

I look forward to my kid’s 2 year check up. Want to get to see what the doctor believes his final height will be since he is already over 38” tall. Kid keeps growing at half an inch plus a month. I’m afraid of the food bills. Haha

How far away is that? The “double their height at 2” rule was pretty much spot on for me and my 5 siblings.

The success rate of piñatas at birthday parties, where an adult doesn’t just have to rip it apart...1%? Lower?

Church across the street had a liquidation sale of their daycare stuff as they’re shutting the program down. Got a few hundred dollars worth of high quality toys for $50. Not too shabby.

LOL. Yeah. Cause American piñatas are just tissue paper covered cardboard.

OK, fam, I need your thoughts on this:

Next week, my kids are off to my parents for a week. As my parents still work (sort of), they usually get my boys into a morning tennis camp/pool etc. So there is a sunk cost to their visit, not including the meals and spoiling that will go on.

My 13 year old is on the fence about going anyway, and then we've learned that his two best friends are both having birthday parties/sleepovers during the week. (As an aside, even though it's summer, who does birthday parties with sleepovers during the week? That's just weird.)

My concern is twofold: he was already in a negative mindset about the visit, and this will make things worse. Second: I don't want him to poison his younger brother's mindset about the visit.

As we've committed to it, and my parents have already paid for tennis camp for week, we aren't going to cancel. That wasn't on the table even without the tennis camp - my parents are getting older and I want my kids to spend time with them. My grandparents, other than my mom's estranged mother, had all died by the time I was 13 and I have few memories of them. His friends will be there next week.

Do we bribe him with cash? More video game time? What do we do? Oh, bother.

I think 13 is old enough to handle the explanation just as you laid it out to us.

Yeah, he'll get it...but I just want to head off him ruining it for his brother.

He's going to ruin it for his brother if he's in a sh*tty mood regardless of any sort of incentive. I think him getting it is enough to head it off, but that would just be me. If you want to bribe him, go for it.

So, we're having the one kid sleep over this Friday night and the other the following weekend when they get back in town.

He seems amenable to this arrangement, so we'll see.

Son has a double earache that is wrecking him right now. He has not been his happy self since yesterday morning.

lil mac has had 4 of them since birth. They suck. He's likely going to need tubes.

Also pediatricians piss me off. He went like 3 weeks ago and got an anti biotic for a double one. Then had to go back on Monday to get rechecked. Said his ears 'are still a little pink and swollen' and for us to 'keep an eye on it and if it gets worse come back' (so we can take you for another copay and office visit charge).

Yea they said he's a candidate for Tubes, as this would be like 4th on in 8 months. This is the first time he's been changed noticeably by it though. He's very much not himself.

I don't think that's their rationale for getting you to come back...

Offering more antibiotics to a kid than is necessary is dangerous.

Makes sense. It pisses me off though that I have to pay to have her look in his ears and then say OK see ya later.

For us, we're paying for peace of mind. I'll gladly pay $20 to know my kid does or doesn't have an ear infection.

$20 for the potential of my child not screaming at all ends of the night? Debit or credit?
