Not really. She said at 11 she "should be home by 5". My wife didn't call her in advance.

She didn't drive to the casino either so, I'm not totally blaming her. Just need somewhere to vent that isn't my wife.

Need some advice from experienced parents. Every year the local bar association does a gift drive for children in local shelters. This year, I drew a future child—an expecting mother who hasn't yet given birth. Because a newborn wouldn't even know it received a gift, the suggested gifts include stuff like a diaper bag. I've looked at some diaper bags on Amazon, and I'm thinking a backpack-style diaper bag makes more sense over other designs because it frees up both arms and won't easily slip off. Plus, they look like they might be able to fit more stuff. Does anyone have strong opinions on styles of diaper bags?

Backpack style all the way. We have one of each kind and the backpack is used every time.

Yeah, my wife got a super expensive Michael kors diaper bag and within 2 weeks moved to a 30 buck backpack.

Depending on the dollar amount, you could stuff it full of some cheap essentials too. Some ideas

Nose freida
Dirty diaper bags
Children's Motrin
Boudreaux butt paste or aquaphor baby
Nuby pacifiers

The bag itself would pretty much consume the suggested budget. It's supposed to be around $30, but I've exceeded that in the past.

Just buy a bag. Don't try to guess what should go into it.

It's bad luck to give an empty bag!

(that's what my mom always said about purses and wallets)

I’d throw in a Target gift card, personally.

Fairy certain my kid has Parvovirus/Slapped Cheek syndrome. Fever went away and now about a day later a rash appeared on his cheeks.

We are fairly certain he has already had roseola (which he had about a month ago). If it is this slapped cheek, then there aren’t very many more for him to have. Already had HFMD.

He is vaccinated against all the terrible ones, so hopefully he doesn’t get those. Haha

It's birthday party planning time. My daughter is inviting all of her neighborhood friends, but also wants to invite a few kids in her class. Anyone ever navigate that before? I really don't want her passing out invitations to a few kids at school, but I don't see any other way around it.

We go directly to the parents. Granted, we're in a small town where everyone knows each other, so I'm not sure if that works for you.

Definitely wouldn’t work for us, as I don’t know these parents at all.

I come in here to offer my condolences. Just had our son's birthday party yesterday. Wife wanted a "small" party this year so we didn't invite any school friends. Ended up with over 40 people coming. Did make for an epic ball hockey game in the basement though.

I don't remember it being like this when I was a kid. I invited the kids I was friends with and that was that. Maybe all the boys were invited, but still, not the entire class.

Was getting Christmas pictures yesterday, and just turned 1 son was sitting on a couch a foot from the ground (thank god it was low), he lunged forward and went face neck/first in the grass. It was awful, look like he scorpioned himself. I was just out of reach and he was face first before I had time to react. Cried his eyes out for two minutes, then was back to normal.

Still went to the Childcare ER to get it checked out, but was totally fine. Made my heart skip a beat and my wife an emotional wreck a few hours afterward.

Yep, lil mac had his first scorpion yesterday too, off of our bed onto carpet. Think he scared himself more than anything.

A good rule of thumb our pediatrician told us. If they fall from a height below 4 feet and hit their head, they are most likely fine as they won’t reach a high enough speed to cause damage. If it is above 4 feet, then it’s a 100% check to make sure they don’t have a concussion.

Yea PA there told us 2-3 feet. He rolled off and just thumped on the ground. Probably more scary for us, as I said he was done crying and then laughing as we were putting him into the car seat.

Told my wife, while it sucks, this is stuff that is bound to happen that you just have to manage I would assume. I was within like two feet of him to be outside of the picture and it was instant. I feel terrible, but I don't know outside of hovering underneath him with my arms out, I would have caught him.

I was in the bathroom, had just gotten out of the shower, and I heard the thump. Knew immediately what it was. My wife had just turned her back for 2 seconds and it happened.

We’re limited to 20 people at the venue, which works in our favor. I actually emailed her teacher, and she’s going to put the invitations into their take home folders right before they leave. Nice.

You have a good teacher. Looks like this will be a kids only event then? We had more adults than kids show up yesterday. Marketing the Steeler game probably increased that amount.

Wife is beaming with pride after being told we send 'the healthiest lunches in daycare'

I'd like to see what everyone else sends

Ours are usually a noodle of some sort, an Aldi chicken sausage, squash, cucumbers and grapes.

Was told my daughter will be moving up to the next group at daycare. She's still be in the same room, but with the older grouping there. The daycare teacher told me that they usually move kids up by age, but my kiddo is more advanced than the kid that should be moving up, so she's skipping ahead of him. Proud papa over here.
