Tax related parenting question.

We have a dependent care FSA maxed out to $5k annually.
We spend over $5k on daycare. I want to reimburse myself for all my kids doctor visits thus far as well.

If I reimburse myself for $300 in Dr visits, and $4700 in daycare, can I also claim 'total daycare dollars' minus $4700 on my taxes for child care credit at the end of the year?

Is there a strategy to maximize the non-daycare reimbursements for the dependent care FSA so that a larger child care tax credit can be realized?
I should just let ones who are still in the tax game answer this, but I believe the answer is the following:

Normally, you can only claim up to 3,000 in child care expenses for one child (6,000 for 2 or more), but since you have a child care FSA, you get up to 5,000 in income tax break assuming you use it all. So even though you have more than 5k, you're out of luck. Be glad you have that option available because you're saving yourself income tax on an extra 2,000. The employer will report the 5,000 in dependent care FSA on the W2 so it's going to be put on your return and then you just need a statement from daycare for your records in case of an Audit that shows you had at least 5,000 in child care costs. Plus by having the employer FSA, you are also saving FICA tax, I believe, so double win. You should put all your expenses on your tax return but that is how I believe it will work.

There is a difference between dependent care FSA and health care FSA. If you have both, Awesome. You can't use one for the other. You could in your head reimburse the doctor visits but it doesn't change anything.

Do you have an FSA option for medical care? You can have both at the same time.

My wife has an FSA and a dependent care FSA as well - all through her work.

Can I reimburse lil mac's Dr visits from my wife's FSA? I was under the impression that was only for her.

If you both have dependent care FSAs, make sure that you're not trying to submit more than a combined total of $5k. This isn't a per-parent limitation.

Right, she has one for $5k. I don't have anything at all WRT FSAs.
Tangential question - I presume 'married filing jointly' you don't save one way or the other by giving the DC FSA to the higher earner?

So then I guess I need to determine if I can do reimbursements through my wife's FSA for my son's medical care, and then divert his medical care into that fund and his daycare into the DC FSA.

You should be able to because he is a dependent of your wife (like you are) when it comes to the FSA. I know we can submit doctor bills for myself and our son through my wife's FSA. Even though I'm not (nor my son) on my wife's health plan, I can still use the FSA through her work.

Dang, I don't know why I'm just realizing that. But I could've made out a little better even by putting more money in her FSA. Next year...

Havent had uninterrupted sleep in 2 weeks now. Not sure what the deal is. Presumably a growth spurt. Kid wakes up at 2AM to eat. Used to sleep all night up until ~8 months. now he's pushing 9 and just has insatiable appetite
Did you check with doc re: cereal or other solution?

How about the dairy allergy?

Doc suggested just more solids later in the day. He's doing a lil better.
And re: the dairy allergy, they said give it about 3 months and try again, should grow out of it.
9 mo checkup - 18.2# 29.25", requested an iron blood screening (which I surmised is SOP at 9 mos)

At the kid's current size there is absolutely no reason (physically) for him to need to feed in the middle of the night. We too were feeding our little one around 3AM every single night because she would wake up screaming, and a bottle put her back to sleep. The doctor said, she's doing that because she knows you'll come give her a bottle. "Really doc? How do we ween her off the night bottle?" "uhhhh... you stop giving it to her." The first couple nights sucked as she just screamed for that bottle, but after those nights she just slept right through. Ever since then, sleep has been fantastic. She goes down around 7-7:30 every night, wakes up between 6 and 7 the next morning, and yeah, there are occasionally wake ups where she cries a bit, but it's quick and she's right back asleep.

Now on the back side of this...f*ck you if you are complaining about 2 weeks of uninterrupted sleep.

It's been about a week and a half since this happened, I think. His top teeth are about through. Can see them. So I presume the bottle was just his comfort (and the wife's too :D)

Twice in the last two weeks my daughter has stayed up late (playing with friends down the street, and a birthday party last night). Both times she became “too emotional” (her words) and proceeds to throw up. At least she can make it to the bathroom first, I guess.

One of my kids did that two trips in a row to Legoland. Both the night before we went to the park, two years apart, he got so excited about it...he threw up in the hotel the night before.

Hopefully you don’t get the biting stage. Our little guy went through it. Slowly stopping. But a couple weeks of it, dear lord it hurt.

At what point did you start this? I'm doing this now basically at 2-3 AM every night, but he's only getting 4-5 5.5 oz bottles a day.

If memory serves, the pediatrician yelled at us at the 9 month appointment (I say yelled... it was more of a stern "you need to do this" sort of chat). She suggested that we do it at the 6 month appointment. I think (and I was sleep deprived at the time, so my memory might be fuzzy) the doc said once the kid reaches double their birth weight, the night feeding isn't necessary anymore and they're just doing it out of routine.

That sounds about right for double birth weight. Ours go there about 2 weeks ago (4 months) and the last several nights he is usually good for ~10 hours before feeding. Still wakes up during night, but goes back to sleep without much difficulty. We also upped his night bottle to 6 ounces. We had been doing all 5, and this seemed to help as well.

Attended my third (not counting my own), and final, hs graduation tonight. She went to pa cyber school and this was for all graduating students from eastern pa. It was by far the most active crowd.

Last day of Kindergarten today. I can't believe how quickly that school year finished. Camp starts tomorrow, too, which should help our daughter, who is really going to miss her teacher.

So my almost 10 month old has to bring in snacks for the rest of the infants in his daycare. Like, WTF?
A. my kid eats like 15 puffs and 2 pouches of food.
B. what the F do other infants even eat?

I'm pretty sure there was a 'buyout' option but still, what the hell are they gonna feed kids under 1 year old as a snack?
