It only gets worse. Wait until the one year visit. Nurses repel from the ceiling to give your kid a shot.

Yeah, that was bonkers. It was a terrible feeling holding down my daughter's legs, but she was laughing by the time she got to the car.

Found out were having a boy yesterday. I was convinced it was going to be a girl. Either way, just praying that he's healthy.

Two bits of advice for sports’ parents:

1. If you have an issue with your kid’s playing time, talk to the coach about it first. Better yet, have your kid do it, if they’re middle school age or older.

2. Your kid isn’t as good as you think s/he is. 98% of the time, the reason your kid isn’t playing is because someone else is better overall or better for a specific situation.

Parents make coaching unenjoyable sometimes.

Agree. Middle school or above have the kid ask. I might argue that it's never appropriate for a parent to debate playing time with a coach.

The other 2% your kid isn't playing because s/he is a talented douchebag.

Parents make coaching unenjoyable sometimes.

God Bless you MWB.
I coached my daughter’s 1st & 2nd grade futsol team and realized that was the limit of my knowledge and patience. Everybody played as equally as I could manage, everybody got to play every position and everybody was happy. Any higher up and parents start thinking about the score and how their kid isn’t learning how to be the next Ronaldo.

We played (modified) Futsal rules U17 5v5 this spring on a U10 field. First time state association had tried it. So fun. Minimal drama. 9 on the team so had a goalie and rotated 4 players. More good comments from parents about that than all the other teams I have coached combined.

It was a blast actually. We played on a basketball court over the winter and it was a great way for kids of that age to play the game with some pace.
But I could tell my time was up when two or three of the parents start pushing their kid to be superstars and at the same time you’ve got a little girl who is afraid of the ball.

5v5 soccer, typically indoors on a hard surface. Unlimited substitutions make it easy to get playing time even

Ronnie, I agree about debating playing time. I’ve got no issue with a player coming to me and asking what they can do to get on the court more though. I’m happy to tell them what they can work on.

And if it’s rec stuff, playing time should be pretty even. But once you get to travel team levels, you earn your time.

Last day of school for the vlb household. We’re buying a family pass to the wave pool @ settlers cabin, and my mom will take the kids 3-4 days a week this summer. This is the first year my wife and I are comfortable with this. The older two had lessons and have been strong swimmers for 6 years now. We’re taking advantage of the free swimming lessons offered for the 7yo.

Thinking about the Jada Pinkett Smith discussion...I want to be clear that I am not prudish in that respect. My wife and I have both told our daughter what *that* is, and I've been sure to emphasize that NOBODY is allowed to be down in that area besides the two of us. And of course, even then she will be rapidly approaching that age where I will have to get her mother if she is having any issues in that area.

So to Tony's point, yes, I have instilled in her at an early age that it is a big problem if someone violates her in that respect and to tell us right away.

Currently sitting on the floor of the Savannah International Convention Center waiting with several hundred other people while my son competes in the National Junior Beta Club social studies competition.

I hate crowds and this is a **** of preteens, their parents, and bored siblings. It's driving me nuts...but the sacrifices you make for your kids.

As meow pointed out, that probably wasn't the best name for the club with today's slang. Very cool though.

That's the building that's across the river from Savannah proper, right?

Yeah, it's right across from River Street. We are in Hilton Head for the week, so we drove in and parked there and used the ferry over to River Street... Except it was slow, crowded, and heavy rain all afternoon.

The Beta Convention has dozens of competitions, my son is the sixth grade social studies champion of South Carolina. He had to take a social studies test, on his first full week of summer vacation.

He actually didn't mind it. It was 50 multiple choice questions. We'll find out how he did tomorrow night.

Nice...social studies was always my favorite subject (combined with history). I enjoyed visiting Bluffton when I was there, nice little town center there.

Recent HS grad came home from work today all excited that he has built up $80 in mileage allowance and that’s like 3x what he has spent on gas so far at his summer job.

Had to ‘splain that you know the airbag light you mentioned and the little sticker that says there was an oil change due 300 miles ago? It’s for that too. By the way just give me whatever’s left over at the end of August for insuring your ass.
