I think you'll know, as best as you can, when that time comes.

If I were in your shoes and we had a choice in the matter, I think some districts spell it out, I feel that when the time came there would be good indicators if it's too soon or not.

I am curious everyone's thoughts on this matter. Luckily I have like 4 years to make the call, but someone asked me the other day whether or not I'll enroll my kid in kindergarten right away. The cutoff in our district is also his birthday - 9/1.

Guess it's still entirely way too early to tell which way to go. But it's almost a decision of 'is he the oldest or the youngest' in class.
In general, boys mature later than girls and seem to be better off waiting a year. However, really depends on how your kid is. Just tough to tell at that age sometimes.

Yeah. And then I saw an article today about how you may make the decision because he doesn't seem ready at the time.. Then a month later it's obvious he is ready.

On Saturday, I accompanied my daughter to a skating party that was organized by her school out in Lancaster. Growing up in Altoona, I used to love looking forward to the skating parties (the rink has been closed for at least 15 years now). Man, putting the blades on and going out, on top of them doing the limbo/hokey pokey/chicken dance, all the way down to that skating rink "smell"...that brought on a rush of nostalgia.

Speaking of skating, when's a good time to get a youngin on the ice?

My son is obsessed with hockey and I figure I might as well strike while the iron is hot

Yep.

"Can dad skate?" is the more pertinent question...

You can both bond over taking skating lessons at the same time.

Oh I know how. Lol.

I guess its more "is dad too fat to be able to skate now"

Time to break out the frozen ice pops with electrolytes. My daughter loved them both times she had strep, which helped keep her hydrated.

:thumb:

Our family has been immensely fortunate to avoid strep for our daughter's whole childhood so far...aside from a two-day stay at Dupont in Delaware for RSV after she turned 1 (and the breathing problems prior to that), she's been a mostly healthy kid. Our friends swear by those ice pops, good call. Among the "less severe" illnesses, there aren't many things more miserable than strep.

We had a phenomenal experience there and still see the pulmonologist down there once a year. I had initially taken her to the ER at Coatesville (closest one to us), and they rushed her by ambulance to DuPont. It's the closest children's hospital to us. I know CHOP is great but we had a really good experience there.

Did you have a bad experience there with one of yours?

No, I was just wondering why you went to Dupont instead of CHOP. I didn't realize that Dupont was closer to you, which makes sense now.

Our son (4 months on Monday) just slept through the night for the first time, from 10-720. He had been getting closer for a little while, but man forgot how exciting this was haha.

School just called. Daughter has a sore throat, enlarged tonsils, and a fever. Betting money on her having strep throat for the second time in as many months.

Yuck. We've escaped this cold/flu season thus far without me having to take any PTO. I'm sure now that I say that I'll be home all next week with a bug.

I’m just coming off a cold. I’d take on them all if it meant my daughter could avoid them. She’s a trooper, though. Much more than I am.

Kids are amazing with that stuff. After our daughter turned 1 and literally less than a week before she had to go to the hospital, she was so full of smiles and laughs even as she had snot everywhere and was struggling to breathe clearly. It's motivational, tbh.

Our house typically gets hit pretty hard. My daughter gets everything from daycare, and my wife teaches at the university, so she gets it from there. I don't know if it's just a down year with the number of illnesses, or if they're all just low level colds (cough and sniffles and that's about it).

I am now a proud papa of a baby girl. Adeline Eve was born at 1:13 AM this morning.

Man I think I’m going to love having a daughter
