We’d always make our kids gather a bag full of toys they didn’t play with anymore and donate the toys to a charity. Taught the kids about thinking about others and it cleared space.

And young kids don’t remember **** anyway, so we never bought a bunch of crap. And it’s always a bunch of crap most of which will fall by the wayside in about a month.
I love this.

Yeah, it's frustrating. Our basement (half of which is our daughter's play area) has an absurd amount of toys, many of which she hasn't played with in months or even years. It's just too much damn stuff but I feel like a voice in the wilderness saying that. The only saving grace is that because she has always liked boy toys more (Transformers, etc), our son will already have some cool stuff. But of course, that won't stop everyone from buying him a shtload more stuff.

We asked for books for our little guy. He loves them more than toys it seems. Even if it's just him turning the pages while he sits in my lap.

That’s what we did with our daughter this year. Books and crafts (jewelry making kit). My mom also got her a rock tumbler, which she’s super excited about. Not nearly as many “toys” as previous years.

We have been keeping my son home from daycare since the 11th. We first had to because he got RSV from daycare, but now because every other day kids have been getting sick in his room. Glad my wife works in a school. Anyway, he had a follow up appointment for RSV to make sure he didn’t get an ear infection or anything else that would require antibiotics, and they took a measurement of him. He measured 41 inches! Mind you he is only 2 years 2 months old...

I'm very careful to know exactly what my neices need, the exact type of toys or clothes my sister will appreciate before buying. Plus, they will always gets books from me. I'd rather go with my sisters wishes than add a bunch of pointless toys to the house. Like this year it was books and Montassari things

I got my nephew a toy that he woke up at 2 in the morning the day after Christmas to play with and wouldn't go back to sleep.

Mission accomplished.

Kiddo has been sick for the past couple weeks. Went to the doc on Friday, and everything sounded/looked okay. They guessed just cold after cold. Bad fevers all weekend prompted another doc visit this morning. Pneumonia. Sooooo glad it was caught early this time, and hopefully we don't have to do ER visits like last go around: viewtopic.php?p=677262#p677262

Our 3 month old has his first cold... This is hell. Can't breathe, can't sleep more than 20 minutes, and you can't do much for him besides using the Baby Frida (or whatever it is called) to suck it out. I will say that thing is way more effective than the traditional nose sucker

We use those plug-in Vick's Vapo pads when our daughter has a cold. It seems to help, though the pads are pricey.

We're on day five of our daughter coughing in the middle of the night thanks to a persistent dry cough. I haven't had a full night's sleep since last Tuesday, I think.

Sounds silly but I put a drop of peppermint oil on the dried up pad and it works well. Get 4-5 uses out of a pad instead of just 1. Those things are sooo overpriced.

lil mac has a head cold right now too; we just got him a cool mist Vicks humidifier and a pack of those pads yesterday. $8 bucks for a 10 pack. FSA dollars, but still.

Kiddo is back at daycare today. After 1 day of antiobiotics, she was back to her normal self, and the doc cleared her for returning to daycare.

Also, those Vick's pads are a god send some nights.

Every once in a blue moon I can find them at Aldi, and I usually buy them all out when I do.

This stuff (https://www.target.com/p/zarbee-s-natur ... A-51112612) also seems to help our lil guy. It's safe for 3mos.

My man! Love us some Zarbee's stuff. My wife actually sent me a Target link for another Zarbee's product (the oral stuff) that she asked me to pick up after work as well, but I will definitely try this :)

Yeah. We have a lot of the Zarbee's stuff. They make a cough syrup that I don't really care for. I don't think it's anything other than honey with some essential oils, so I usually roll my eyes when mrs mac gives a dose. It's placebo for sure.

We've tried a lot of the Zarbee's stuff in the past, but none of it ever worked as well as actual medicine.

My daughter tripped and fell in the playground during school today and broke her fall with her face. No nausea, eye issues, or dizziness, and her dentist wasn't concerned with her cut gums. My wife has also already instructed me not to respond to people who comment on her bruised face with "you should see the other kid".

Could always go with "it was a game misconduct that was totally worth it."

I feel bad for her. She looks like she got into multiple fights, and I'm sure one of the bruises is going to be black and blue by tomorrow. She's a trooper, though.
