Ah man, I was sort of looking forward to this in a few years. Makes sense they would just go hang out with their friends instead. I guess the lesson learned is to make sure your phone is charged beforehand.
Same...kind of shattered my idealistic vision of what it would be like.

If I start busting a move my kid will want to be as far away as possible.

I’m confident someone somewhere puts a nice one of these together with some activities and i’s not just kids run around to Katy Perry songs for 1/2 hour, 2 slow dance songs, repeat x4.

My daughter got to dress up and get her nails done etc and she loves that- so that’s cool.

You get out there and start dancing , your kid will follow and it will be a great time.
Tangent - the notion that the dancing comes first and the free spirit attitude follows is a significant pet peeve of mine since it clearly works the other way around. But I am glad someone is enjoying these things.
I honestly don't know how it works, probably just something to do with my moves, hell I won my mother in law over by doing my patented slide on my knees ripping my shirt open at her in Metropol the first time I met her. Real classy.

The same reason I don't buy the first car I test drive without at least test driving other cars first... sure, I like it, but what if this other one is better? Probably silly, but still.
The other cars aren't taking your calls!
We are officially signed up and have a spot saved in the daycare, so one more thing checked off the "To Do" list..

The director at the facility looks almost exactly like Marie from breaking bad... it was kind of freaky. Better than looking like Skyler. If that was the case, we'd have never gone back to that place.

god damn, catholic schools are a joke. there are just no standards. we send my daughter there for full day Pre K. the teacher just emailed us, saying that our daughter was still hungry after snack time and wanted one of her special occasion cookies (allergy thing). so the teacher gave her a cookie and then told us to pack her more snacks tomorrow.

thanks for the tip, subpar teacher who has no parental authority over anyone. i'll make sure to listen to you when trying to figure out how much sugar to feed my kid. you have them eating cookies and candy pretty much non-stop, so you seem to have a handle on things.

..and beyond that, this is just a really bad pre-K program. no differentiation for older (smarter) kids. no real philosophy. just babysitting with some very basic lessons and a smattering of brainwashing.

she needs to be in a full day program this year. in this area, that means catholic school. and this one was the only choice, since it had the right combo of reputation, location and cost. but we didn't know the good pre-k teacher was leaving this year before it was too late. we got stuck with a dud, who minored in trading sugar-for-affection in college.

The school as a director, no? I'd escalate this issue to the director.

my wife knows how to navigate this. she's an elementary teacher at a real school.

we also have 4 months left and we're done with it forever, so there is a "pick your battles" element to this. really, all we require is for them to not kill our child by giving her milk or tree nuts. this also seems challenging to them, as they put a piece of cheese pizza in front of her a few weeks ago at lunch time. my wife was there that day, thankfully. but no biggie.a 5 year old dying at your hands isn't THAT tragic, right?

That's a serious issue for a 'pick your battles' debate, honestly. I'm more surprised that there aren't other options available. More daycare locations seem to pop up overnight in our area, which is nice because I have zero interest in sending my daughter to any sort of catholic school.

there's one other option - which is where we'll be sending our son. our daughter spent a couple days a week there 2 years ago. it was ok, but not great. much better than our current situation, though.

the allergy thing is insane at this school. several times a week we need to coordinate food bullshit with the teacher. at what point does that become such a PITA for the teacher that she actually tries to earn respect from the kids instead of buying it? there is no need to weave in snacks to every other lesson and every "holiday". i'm also at the point where i'm happy to be a militant allergy parent, and don't really give a hoot about parents who might say, "that's your problem. we still want little johnny to stuff his fat face with donuts at the school's discretion". this would be a more compelling argument if the endgame wasn't potentially a body bag.

Honestly, I don't have any issues with parents who go this route, because I'd do the same exact thing. Safety trumps BS like having special treats.

If the allergy really is life-threatening, I think going ballistic is within the range of "NORMAL" behavior in this scenario. Like, threatening lawsuit if she eats outside here restricted diet again.

I am probably way too much of a worrywart about this, but I get irrationally bothered when I review the menu for the day (breakfast, lunch, PM snack) after I pick up my daughter. Seems like way too much fruit, grahams, peaches, and other sugary stuff. They get plenty of vegetables too so I'm probably (definitely) just being overly concerned about my daughter's health.

Also, a "reminder" went out from our day care that gum is NOT permitted there. The maximum age at this place is 5....there are definitely a few trashy parents so this isn't surprising.

Your daycare actually feeds your kid? I wonder how much that jacks up the cost.

Most food programs are state funded and should have little impact on tuition fees. YMMV

Ding ding ding. It is fairly negligible, and it is so nice not having to worry about any of that.

So they're getting way too much fruit and plenty of vegetables... is it being supplemented with sugar cubes, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles?
