@NTP66
We are doing this with the kids in a couple weeks up at the expo center in Oaks. Thought you might be interested, should be a fun diversion.

Day three of this dental mess. My daughter has eaten maybe two cups of yogurt, some mashed potatoes, and some applesauce since Wednesday. I think she's in a lot less pain, but now is afraid of feeling pain, so she is avoiding eating. So naturally, her stomach now hurts. It's been rough trying to convince her that she needs to make an effort to eat more in order to feel better, and that her teeth will still be a little sensitive. I hate all of this.

Ugh, that really sucks @NTP66 .
My youngest had his expander put in yesterday...the first step in his two years of orthodontia.
He really struggled chewing chicken tenders last night, one of his favorite foods. His mouth is also just full of saliva, so it's hard to understand him.
Then we'll need to crank the expander one full turn a day for the next two weeks using a key the size of a paperclip. I can barely even see the keyhole to turn it. Probably going to have to break down and get some reading glasses just for this.

She seems to be doing a little better right now, but has apparently setup a home office in our downstairs bathroom "in case she has to throw up". At least she's starting to eat more.

Got my daughter’s second grade teacher assignment today. Asked the neighborhood moms, and the few who had kids that had her say they loved her. That’s great to hear, though it seems as though all of the teachers are well liked. She is apparently older, so I’m interested to see how the virtual learning goes.

It was weird for me to see the virtual teacher lineup at my son's school. His teacher for first grade is a grandmother, and his kindergarten teacher from last year, who is probably older than his 1st grade teacher, is also teaching online.
My guess is they are more worried about catching the COVID in person and opted to do online. I don't blame them, but I know his teacher from last year struggled with the online stuff during the last 2-1/2 months of the year.

They also just sent out an email today saying so many parents of 1st and 2nd graders have changed from in-person to virtual that they are going to hire 2 more teachers. When they sent out the first survey back in June, only 10% of families said they would do online. I'm willing to bet that number is closer to 50% now, and may continue to increase.

How many kids are usually in each class? Our elementary school is capped at 20, but most run 17-18. The teachers that would normally be teaching in person are handling the online learning, and only their students will report to them.

You guys' districts are giving the option for in person?
All of them in our area are forcing virtual.

Speaking of, we received our virtual learning handbook. Live teaching M/T/Th/F, and prerecorded learning on Wednesdays, when the teachers have their professional development.

I believe our cap is 20 as well, but my son's virtual class had 28 and growing. There are typically 3 first grade teachers, but they combined two elementary schools into one for the virtual.How many kids are usually in each class? I'm not sure any in the Pittsburgh area are forced virtual. I honestly haven't kept track, but all of our friends/family thus far have the option.You guys' districts are giving the option for in person?

Oof, not a fan of that move at all. Our district told us early on that kids would be taught by their school's own teachers, and that they would not be pooling the entire district. One of the reasons for this is that if we get to a point where students can return, they return to the class with the same teacher and classmates.Source of the post but they combined two elementary schools into one for the virtual.
