What a fcking idiot. There's actual proof that doing that in a controlled setting like a pool is helpful. Not off the goddamn pier into the ocean.https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/07/17 ... -how-swim/Dad Accused Of Throwing 5-Year-Son Into Ocean To Teach Him How To Swim

So...the kid can swim now? Mission Accomplished. The child, who didn’t show any signs of injuries, was released to his mother.
“The little kid was out here by himself. Completely by himself. There was nobody around him, no adults,” Mitch Brown, a former Georgia state trooper who was on vacation with his family, told WESH.

Our daughter was rubbing her eye for some reason last night, I guess she had a speck of dust that got in or whatever. I told her to stop rubbing it and to just blink it out.
Fast forward to today. Day care calls at 10 AM, saying that we need to take her to the doctor because they think she has pink eye. I was on work calls, so my wife left the house, picked up our daughter, took her to urgent care, and the doctor quickly told her that there is zero chance she has pink eye. So, back to day care by 11... I get why they are extra cautious but still annoying as F.
Tonight is their monthly Parent's Night Out, where they stay open until 9:00. No way in HELL she was coming home at 11 AM today of all days

So it got worse. More antibiotics. He was vomiting today so they gave us a dose of Zofran for him to keep from getting dehydrated. He's on the mend now but JFC.and for us to 'keep an eye on it and if it gets worse come back' (so we can take you for another copay and office visit charge).

My daughter’s at the final level at swim class, and I apparently chose the class wisely, as she has been the only kid in class the entire time. The max is four, but since she’s solo, she’s basically getting the personal lesson at the group rate. I expect her to finish this out in the next 4-5 weeks, and then she has the option to join their ‘swim team’.

So the teachers at camp didn’t bother putting sunscreen on my daughter before going to the outdoor pool this afternoon, and she’s absolutely roasted. I’m **** livid right now.

How old is she? (not that it matters, but I'm thinking my daughter is 15 months old... that's lawsuit territory imo)So the teachers at camp didn’t bother putting sunscreen on my daughter before going to the outdoor pool this afternoon, and she’s absolutely roasted. I’m **** livid right now.

She’s six, but they’re supposed to reapply in the afternoon (stated in their policy book, as well). We send her to camp with sunscreen on in the morning. I want to see what the teacher says tomorrow, because I can’t imagine that they’re leaving it up to the kids to remember to put sunscreen on (I did ask her if they tell the kids to do just that, and she says they don’t). I know more than a few people who dealt with skin cancer from not protecting themselves, so this is high on the list for me in terms of importance.

That’s precisely why we just bought her shampoo that has a berry scent, so that we can verify that she’s actually using it.

I'm just getting my 13 year old to put on sunscreen, with hesitation. Yikes.

I can see where they're coming from with that, only because some kids have bad reactions to some sunscreens. One of my Sport sunscreens burns my daughter. If you're providing your own sunscreen, though, the risk is essentially your own.

To update my own issue, I spoke with the teacher who apologized for forgetting to put sunscreen on her. Hopefully that's the end of it.

Yup, the daycare cannot risk just slapping on some sunscreen and the kid having a bad reaction. We had to fill out a medication form and provide the sunscreen we wanted our little one to wear. Unfortunately, common sense takes a back seat to lawsuits.

Funny story: we had to send in a signed medication form for cough drops at my daughter's elementary school. Odd, but whatever. We received a note at the end of the year asking us to pick it up or it'll be trashed, so my wife went to pick it up the last week of school. The bag was **** empty.

Yup. In this era of public shaming and false information, I don't blame the day cares one bit. NTP's situation is obviously different.Unfortunately, common sense takes a back seat to lawsuits.

IIRC car seats, for the most part, all of have to have a particular safety rating and pass governmental standards. I would say it's up to looks at this point.how does one choose strollers and car seats wtf man
Strollers, whichever one allowed for the car-seat to snap-in was selected.

There’s very little difference between high end and low end car seats. Go cheap.how does one choose strollers and car seats wtf man
But...you’re gonna want to have a 5 year plan here. Meaning whatever you buy should be as versatile as possible, as far as transitioning into the next level of seat goes. So when you buy a dedicated seat that doesn’t involve the whole carrier latch system thingy, get one that will convert into a booster, if possible. You just don’t want to have to buy new ones incrementally along the way.
For strollers, get Bobs or City minis, or something of high repute. Cheap strollers suck.

I don't know of many convertible car seats that last from the infant stage to toddler, and the Graco system that we used that had bases for each car was worth its weight in gold. We could get our daughter all tightened up in her seat while still inside, so getting her locked into the car was quick and painless. Where this is worth its weight in gold is in bad weather for obvious reasons.
For convertible car seats, it's all user preference. I love my Britax ClickTight and would buy another in a heartbeat, whereas I would never buy an Evenflo that had the tension knobs on the side ever again. They should all be thrown into a dumpster and lit on fire.

The $50 Cosco brand we had was like 10% worse than the $300 Britax we had. Car seats are easy to install, and there aren’t “features” that really make a difference. Go cheap. Imo.
And yeah, I like the key fit systems where you buckle them into the carrier inside, and then pop it into the base. Then pop it into the stroller once you’re out. Super convenient, but big babies don’t last that long in these.
