i got this kids book that has 1 letter per page, and a bunch of pictures that go with that letter. so the "D" page would say something like, "dancing dragons dangling" and show dragons, and dice and a dunebuggy or whatever.

so i get to the N page, and i swear there's a swastika drawn faintly in the clouds. N...nazi. holy crap, right?

Mini meow has gotten to the age where the threat of a paddling is a deterrent. I still believe that is a viable parenting tool.

Yep. We've reached that stage as well. It's never gotten past that yet thankfully. We're not spankers so the first time he calls our bluff will be the last time we use it.

We've used it maybe 3 times in the past 8 months or so. We will never hit him but there were a few times where he really went overboard with the defiance and we were at a loss for what to do in the moment. As you know, kids through you for a loop quite a bit and we're in a position as parents that we have to act quickly even if we have no idea what to do.

right now, i'm of the opinion that if it reaches that point, then either i've failed as a parent in letting it get to that point, or my child has larger issues that need addressed differently. my kid shouldn't get hit in either scenario.

lol

So if a kid is defiant to the point that a parent threatens spanking then they have failed as a parent? TIL...

Yeah, I read the whole post. I assumed you were replying to my comment (just above yours) that talked about threats.

also...parenting is different for anyone, obviously. i'm not judging here. there's plenty of greater evidence that you and meow have your acts together

my best friend's baby was born this morning with a cleft palate :(

they knew that would happen, but its still kind of heartbreaking to see.

his wife was born that way too, and shes beautiful. just a small scar on her upper lip. when he told me that a few months ago i said id be more worried that he looks like you than your wife.

Medicine has come a long way in this area, IMO, and I think it's best to consult with a children's hospital immediately to figure out a path.

Thats the really infuriating thing. Shes in the Navy and they've used her health insurance for several years. Once they found out about this they began investigating the various pre natal tests and procedures they'd want to do, and none of it was covered by the military healthcare.

He's got a good job and was able to put them on his insurance, but thats disgusting that our military has such bad coverage.

my 15 month old woke up at 10pm and wouldn't go back to sleep until 2am. this is the first time anything like this has ever happened with either of my kids. he's not sick. he was just mad. what the holy f*** is that about? not to mention this might be like top 5 most important days of my career.

That sucks. Mini meow has had a few of those. We usually throw every trick in the book at him when it does. Food, drink, bath, new diaper, new clothes, new sheets, different stuffed animal, music...
