For our first two kids, we used a nanny for the first year. We found somebody we got to know before hand, and she was great. She wasn't available to do it when our daughter was born so we went straight to daycare with her.
But her case was also strange because she was born 1 month before the world shut down. She was close to 1yo before she went anyway.

I think a nanny for the first 1-2 years would be nice, but that so just cost prohibitive, even though my husband and I are high earners.

I have a nanny now. Costs about the same as 2 kids in daycare. I would have had to have 3 kids in daycare (~1,100 / week) this year and next.
The socialization thing kinda stinks but my middle child will do twos pre school a few days a week next year.
Hopefully she sticks it out through at least next year. Once my oldest is in first grade, I can do daycare again if necessary.

Having a nanny only costs you 30K a year? My god, I sometimes forget how different cost of living in Boston is. For a full time nanny here, the base price was 56k for someone with any experience.I have a nanny now. Costs about the same as 2 kids in daycare. Nooo the $30k was what daycare cost (2 kids though) but thats with 10 weeks off since my wife is a teacher. Although the nanny cost is not that far off. She gets paid for 34 hours per weekHaving a nanny only costs you 30K a year? My god, I sometimes forget how different cost of living in Boston is. I think I am starting to go crazy. I have one sided conversations with a baby and a dog for 12 hrs every work day. They have yet to respond, but if they do, I have been broken

I tell my wife that all the time anymore. She comes home from work and wants quiet and I just talk her ear off. She's overstimulated from human interaction and I sit at home in silence for 9 hours lol

I remember those quiet times. I miss those.

That's the only thing I miss about working in the office - that 30-40 minutes of decompression time. Wife and I both work from WFH, and sometimes we don't get to speak to each other until 5PM. It's wild.

I recently relocated my office to the basement and the only time I hear my kids is when the mini sticks game moves from the playroom or living room into the kitchen. It's such a blessing. I have no bathroom down here though so I get a minute or two of human interaction when I go up

Dropped my kid off at school, and noticed a township police truck there, with an officer stationed outside, along with the principal. Turns out another kid threatened to bring a gun to school. Heard that from the neighborhood group text, but nothing official from the school, which I'm a little annoyed with if this is true.

Oh, a police officer? Everything is fine.

I know. I'd like to think that our officers are gutless cowards like the ones in Texas, but I guess you never know. Hope to never have to find out.

So the wife and I will be having a baby girl soon. She will be our first and most likely only child. We are both over 40 and probably waited too long to get here. Her due date is 3/20 but because of my wife's age she will be induced and we get to pick the date for any day the week before. We are thinking the 15th but haven't decided on it yet.
I feel like I am going to be quoting Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon a lot.

I used to work with a woman who did that all the time in a work setting when her personal friend (another woman) was working. It was maddening.I really hate baby talk. My MIL is where to help us for a week and she only does baby talk to mini obhave and I drives me up the wall.

Haha, don't think the wife would go for that. It would be funny to play the glass breaking sound effect once she is born.

Best of luck for a safe delivery! Bring lots of snacks because inductions can take a bit sometimes. It was 36 hours for me from arriving to the hospital to delivery.

Yikes. Hopefully it doesn't take that long but I'll take it into consideration. Did you get food delivered at some point? Don't think I could eat only snacks for that long.Best of luck for a safe delivery! Bring lots of snacks because inductions can take a bit sometimes.
