This is why my wife didn't work when the kids were little. The difference between the salary of a Social Worker with no Masters degree and daycare plus taxes wasn't worth it, plus she got all that time with them. Think we paid $80 a month for preschool two mornings a week.

I often think of telling my wife to stay home but at the same time it's just temporary..

The temporary nature is what keeps me going. We've already figured out how to manage childcare for 2 kids, we'll have to figure out about 8 months with 3

Just did the math and 15% of our budget goes to daycare and 529 investment. Going to be rich in 20 years, if not dead.

The Masters barely made it better. They laid my wife off after her maternity leave (non-profit of 10 people, so they can do whatever the hell they want) and we barely felt the impact.
They picked her because they thought she'd take their offer of working PT so she spend more time at home. Newsflash, 90% of daycares charge for the whole week regardless if it's 5 days or 2.

Any recs on a double stroller? We have a chicco keyfit 30 infant seat. Looking for one that will maybe grow with us and work for toddler/infant and eventually toddler/toddler

Daycare today told me that Prince's room is now shut down until 2/7 due to an exposure.

Why is that the isolation timeline? No clue.

I pushed back and said he just tested positive for covid 10 days ago and to look into it.

They came back and told me since he's had it within the past 90 days he's eligible to go and they'll put him in a different room.

Yeah, joy is now baby Mac will be off until like 2/10 since I tested positive and he was exposed. Ugh.

We got very clear guidelines from our daycare the other day and it’s nowhere close to as strict as some of those here.

Thankfully my daughter hasn’t been in a room that there’s been an exposure… yet.

So if we want to get lil mac tested he has to get tested on day 6 of quarantine (Feb 1) and then can return 15 days after that (Feb 18) which is a Friday and he doesn't go Fridays... Or we can elect to NOT test him and just return in 15 days of quarantine... On Feb 11 (so first day back is Feb 14 as the 11 is also a Friday)...

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

From my understanding: there are two categories (assuming unvaccinated which most daycare kids are): tested positive or tested negative but exposed.

Tested positive:
-Symptomatic or not, 5 days of quarantine. Date of positive test OR date of the onset of symptoms is day 0
-If not symptomatic, can return after 5 days, must wear a mask for 5 additional days (if under 2, must quarantine for 10 days as they can't reliably wear a mask)
-Symptomatic: 5 days or if still positive/symptomatic after 5 days, they can return after 24 hours of being symptom free. Still need to wear a mask for 5 additional days. Again, if under 2: 10 days necessary because they can't wear a mask.

Exposed at daycare but no positive test nor symptoms:
-5 day quarantine, then 5 days with a mask. Under 2, same thing: 10 days.

The biggest confusion comes in if the exposure came from home and not from daycare. If that's the case:
-Child will have to quarantine an additional 5 days BEYOND the adult's quarantine duration. The logic there being that the kid could catch it at the very end of the person's quarantine, so the 5 additional days are required. Then 5 days with a mask: kids under two, it's automatically 10 days because they can't wear a mask.

I think that's where a lot of the frustration is coming from. OCDEL assumes that any kid under 2 isn't going to be wearing a mask, and thus they have the additional 5 days. So if the kid is exposed at home, that kid has to wait out the parent's quarantine AND THEN 10 extra days.

Thanks a lot mac... we made it the whole way through this without our daughter being a contact and now we get a ring the day after I post that. Coincidence?!?!?!?

She was exposed Wednesday apparently. So assuming she doesn't develop symptoms they said she can return on Tuesday next week, then mask the rest of the week (mask quarantine technically goes until Saturday). I suppose the timing of it works out nicely. 2 of the 5 days for the quarantine and 1 of the 5 for masking fall on a weekend where she'd just be home anyways.

Sorry to hear and hope she doesn't get symptoms.

Related note how the F do you people with toddlers and both parents work from home full time? My kid literally cannot entertain himself for more than 5 minutes without it devolving into destruction

Back when the whole thing first broke out, my wife and I would take two hour shifts in us both working from home. She'd watch the kid for 2 hours then I'd watch her for two hours. It made the days both long and fly by at the same time.

That's pretty much what we've resorted to also but my wife can't function like that thanks to anxiety about work lol

C2i, they just sent us updated guidelines that mirror that exactly.

The only caveat being if you're fully vaccinated or of masking age, you can choose to isolate from school for either 5 days or 10, and be credited your full charge.

Right around May of 2020 my wife went back to work after maternity leave. So when I was WFH on her days at work, I had 3 kids: 1 in kindergarten, a 4 year old and a 3 month old. That was difficult, to say the least.

Usually the 4yo would watch the kindergartner do his work on the computer. But that was 1 hr per day, tops. As long as they weren't killing each other (which wasn't guaranteed), the 3 month old was pretty easy with naps, feedings, and diapers. Meetings when the baby was awake was fun, but I wasn't the only one on the call with a baby screaming in the background.

I’m grateful that all of this nonsense happened while my daughter was 7 - made it very easy on us. She was pretty much self sufficient, and didn’t bother us at all while we worked.

My son was 2.5, he had really just started to become a lot more independent and communicate with us effectively. 2 or 3 months earlier and it would have been damn near impossible to get any work done

None of this is really surprising.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/31/psychol ... ealth.html
But as CEOs try to elbow past their rivals to gain a foothold in the still nascent digital space, some psychologists and mental health experts say the race to turn a profit is taking attention away from a crucial question: Will the metaverse be a safe place, especially for kids and teens?

The answer isn’t encouraging. Recent research has shown myriad negative effects of social media on the psyches of children and adolescents, from the prevalence of bullying and harassment to self-esteem and body image issues. Those same pitfalls could be just as prevalent — if not worse — in the wide-open metaverse, with its series of vast virtual worlds intended for both work and play.

But if tech companies take those concerns seriously from the beginning, and build solutions into their metaverse products, they could actually benefit children’s mental health, some experts say.

Today's e-mail from the school:
This morning one sneaker was turned in. It is a white Nike sneaker with laces, but a velcro strap at the top. The sneaker’s Nike symbol is all black and it is a size 2. An email was sent out school wide this morning, but it is still not claimed :( If you notice your child is missing a sneaker we have it here in the office. Thank you.

I really can't stand the business side of our daycare. Since last week my son's room was exposed I got a 4 day "credit" on my bill. But now this woman is telling me since there are 5 weeks in January I got my credit already despite my biweekly payment amount of 8 days remaining unchanged. Listen woman. I don't care if there are 20 weeks in January. I pay every 2 weeks for 2 weeks of care. If I got a 1 week "credit" then at SOME POINT my normal 2 week payment should only be for 1 week. It's not that hard lol.
