Peripherally related to today's sad news about Lasorda...this is great stuff. No surprise Tommy (Tubs) was all about this.

then it wouldn't correlate to the spin rate increases. funny if they were the only ones employing it so aggressively, they must have been nervous about all the talk of increased spin rate

A willingness to spend money this off-season can basically turn your team into a playoff contender.

3,089 hits and he was 27 in his rookie season. Crazy. The stories about his dad almost ruining baseball for him were sad.

Yup. He also had 200 hits in ten consecutive seasons, which like ulf noted is crazy considering most of the years he did that he was in his 30s.

If we have to have the DH, which is straight garbage, this is the least bad way to do it.

At least it would stop the stupid BS in the playoffs where they have their "starter" pitch an inning or two and then bring in the guy who should've started in the first place.

You know what's straight garbage? Watching pitchers swing a bat and enduring galaxy brain managers like Clint Hurdle double switch his bench away.

Seems kind of gimmicky, I’d rather just have the dh

The DH is a gimmick.

I'm a big believer in doing whatever you have to do to win a game. If that means starting the closer and pitching him an inning or 2, then so be it. If it means playing every one of your fielders on the right side of the diamond, so be it (people who whine about the shift bother the hell out of me...hit it where they ain't, stop always pulling the ball...you get paid millions, show off your skill). So Stark's idea goes against my thinking. If it's entertainment combined with competition that we're concerned with, just keep the universal DH and be done with it. Then we can work on cutting down the commercial time in between innings so these 3:15 games can get dropped to around 2:50.

Stark’s idea is gimmicky bullshit. So if my starter gets absolutely rocked in the first inning and I pull him out of mercy I’m also sacrificing my DH before he even got an AB and now have to try to mount a half-assed comeback down one of my best bats while relying on relief pitchers or bench bats to fill the void for the next 9 innings? **** that. **** this idea. **** traditionalism. **** the love for watching grown men flail about at the plate once every five days while never taking BP in between. Universal DH is where it’s at.

I like the idea of trying to figure out how to get starters to go deeper in games, but this isnt it.

My man

And cut out the relief pitcher warm up pitches after he’s thrown 50 warm up pitches in the bullpen.

My dad has been pissing and moaning about reliever warm up pitches for decades, “If a QB gets injuries, does everyone stand around and let the backup QB get a few warmup throws? No, he just goes out there and plays” etc. etc. etc.

Different mound conditions between the bullpen and the field. Yes, limit the throws. But again, length of commercial time also helps contribute to this. Give em 5 throws and then let’s get on with it.
