I think the run Thome had from 95-02 is HOF worthy. That he played for a long time doesn't change that.

ok so jeter had the most WAR of yankee position players in 1998, 1999, 2006, and 2009. In 2006 Chin Meng Wang had more WAR then him. In 2001 Bernie was the only guy with more war.
in 2011-2014 he was pure trash.
arod had more war than him 4 times

About half, and in some of those years he was better than Arod. But teams can have more than one HOF caliber player.Jeter played with A-Rod most of his career, right?Who are the shortstops that are better than Jeter all-time? Very short list. Jeter was the best player on most of the teams he played on.Lets put it this way: there was only a handful of seasons where thome was the best hitter on his team let alone the league. Granted he played with some greats, but even then, you gotta stand out at least one in a while.Agree on Bonds.
Also, as consistently good as Thome was, he was never really considered one of the top players of his generation. He’s a tough one for me. Is it as good to put up very good numbers for 20 years to put up amazing numbers for 12 - 15 years?
that was always my gripes with jeter, too.

2012 was trash? 316/362/429 with 15 HR and 216 hits.ok so jeter had the most WAR of yankee position players in 1998, 1999, 2006, and 2009. In 2006 Chin Meng Wang had more WAR then him. In 2001 Bernie was the only guy with more war.

WAR is definitely a valuable tool, but not the only one. Do you really think that Jeter is not a Hall of Fame caliber player?

Brewers traded their top prospect and two other top ten prospects for Christian Yelich and the signed Lorenzo Cain to a 5 year deal worth $80mm. Still pursuing Darvish and/or Arrieta.
Pirates bout to get their **** pushed in within the division.

All the Pirates needed to do was get some team to give them an all star third baseman.

I mean, they could have followed through on your pipe dream of signing Mike Moustakas. All the Pirates needed to do was get some team to give them an all star third baseman.

As far as the Jeter WAR/Hall of Fame from before, based on the JAWS (career WAR averaged with their 7-year peak WAR) numbers at Baseball Reference:
Shortstop:
1.) Honus Wagner
2.) Alex Rodriguez
3.) Cal Ripken
4.) George Davis
5.) Robin Yount
6.) Arky Vaughn
7.) Ernie Banks
8.) Ozzie Smith
9.) Luke Appling
10.) Bill Dahlen
11.) Alan Trammell
12.) Derek Jeter
ARod, Dahlen, and Jeter are the only ones in the top 15 that aren't yet in the Hall. JAWS obviously can't take everything into consideration, but it's an interesting way to compare.
Others of note at other positions:

I wonder if Ichiro will play this year? He says he wants to play until he's 50.

2016 was a rebound season of sorts for him, but 2017 was a sharp decline that was closer to his 2013-15 performance. If he wants to keep playing my guess is he ends up back in Japan.

Indians will stop using Chief Wahoo on uniforms etc. starting next season.
Evidently, they were going to lose out on the All-Star game next season if they didn't pull the logo.

I hope they put it back on the day after the ASB.
