The movie is schlock and isn't on a pedestal for me, so that's not my beef.
However; everything about the execution of the event is contrary to the spirit of that movie and I think mentioning that is acceptable ridicule. Think of it as celebrating The Grapes of Wrath with a high fashion show.
They had a chance to do something exceptional but just couldn't help themselves even for a few hours.

My Dad ("silent generation) is a fan but I've never seen it.The boomers are the ones complaining? You think young people give a **** about Field of Dreams?
They should’ve played at the Sandlot and have home run balls eaten by The Beast. Wait sorry, I mean a field sort of next to the Sandlot field.

I love Field of Dreams... Would have been nice if they had one game without ads though.

My wife loves that movie for some reason, she won’t watch it with me anymore because of the lines that I laugh at.
I mostly just can never get past the premise that Kevin Costner “ majored in the 60’s”. There’s like a college photo of him that’s supposed to be him as a hippie at Berkeley and he has a mullet.
It would be amazing if it was just the magical baseball movie, and just removed all the big chill junk

Hmm let's see. I got a Nokona in 8th grade ish that I used through HS and into college. Then got an A2000 soph year of college and let my brother use it in the summer and he lost it. So bought a Rawlings that I used up until I quit softball last year. So 3 in the past 18 years or so. However, I did not play 160 games a year.. that's pretty remarkable. I'd bet most use at least one new one every year. Not that they need to, to your point

I will also say my glove was sacred to me and I oiled it and took care of it. Most guys I played with have never seen glove oil. So they can dry and wear out if you don't give them the love they need

ulf did you play college ball?
I think I had the same glove from 7-12th grade
batting gloves were a different story mostly because I kept losing them

Went to a dinner for YSU baseball tonight and Kenny Lofton spoke. I've been to things like that when older players spoke, but this is the first one that I grew up watching and it was an awesome time. Great hearing some stories about guys I grew up idolizing
