I think the question is also, how does the world benefit from these dudes tweeting out racist and homophobic slurs?

generally speaking, giving a public voice to teenagers is not beneficial to the world.

This would be the best outcome for everyone everywhere, to be honest. Enough already.I hope everyone just deletes their **** Twitter accounts and social media dies a overdue death.
Is FAF social media?

There was several Twitter threads from the main MLB writers on this last night and this morning which is where I heard about it and they were pretty much in a consensus that MLB clubhouses will either just ban their players from social media all together or have them delete their accounts when they are drafted and then create an official account that is run through the team office.

I wonder in the end, how many players will have to go to sensitivity training school with Hader.

Unrelated to the thread but not to the topic at hand but I was listening to a college football podcast over the weekend where they interviewed the guy who runs the Elite 11 Quarterback Camps and he was talking about how they're bringing in these rape survivors and other sexual assault speakers to talk to these high school kids about how to properly treat women and other like things.
He was lamenting how few of the kids seem to grasp what the speakers are talking about.

I think this sums it up well.
As teenagers, we (men) did find inflammatory language to be funny. I think Newcomb and Turner's tweets aren't at Hader levels and are more reflective of that immature sense of humor. That said, being young isn't really an excuse to the extent that these dudes should be free from criticism. While there's clearly an extent the criticism shouldn't reach, this is language that has no place in a public forum like twitter, and if these public shamings do prevent future dumbasses from making public comments like that, then this news cycle shamefest is a good thing.

Public shaming seems like sanctioned bullying in this context.

Calling people f*gs on twitter is bullying.

https://mobile.twitter.com/extrabaggs/s ... 1334715392I do believe the Giants would look to trade Andrew McCutchen, but more likely in August on a waiver deal and only if they fail to gain ground or sink further in the standings. The whole qualifying offer/draft compensation carrot for keeping him is sort of a moot point now.

Who does this pitch chart belong to?
It's a bit of a trick question. It belongs to Mets' infielder Jose Reyes, who was inserted into the game in the 8th inning after the Mets had given up 19 runs to the Nationals. Reyes didn't fare much better, giving up 5 runs on 48 pitches.
The final line on Jose Reyes: 1.0 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 0 K, 48 pitches. His velocity ranged from 49 to 82. Considering his windup, I'm surprised he was able to touch 80. His career ERA is now 54.00.
The highlight of that inning had to be when he hit Ryan Zimmerman with a 54 mph fastball curveball

Am I missing something with that Kelley story? This all seems way overblown.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/ ... edirect=on
The message is clear now, delivered first by the trade of Brandon Kintzler, then emphatically when the Washington Nationals designated Shawn Kelley for assignment early Wednesday morning.
“If you’re not in, you’re in the way,” General Manager Mike Rizzo said hours later, acknowledging that the reason he sent both men packing was his feeling that they were undermining clubhouse culture.
Kelley threw his glove and glared into the dugout after allowing a home run to Austin Jackson in what had been a 25-1 game. Kelley said afterward that he was frustrated with umpires missing calls and prodding him on his pace. Manager Dave Martinez, protecting his player, said he believed that’s all it was. Rizzo said he saw what many who noticed Kelley’s glare inferred. Kelley was frustrated to be pitching in a game such as that one in the first place and showed up his manager.
“I [interpreted it that way]. It may not have been, but that’s the way I looked at it,” Rizzo said. ” . . . After what happened before the game yesterday, getting ready for post-deadline season, I thought it was truly a day we should have been happy and celebrating — we had a big win against a division rival and felt good about ourselves — and such a selfish act is not what we’re here for.”

Somebody had to pitch. You'd think that'd be an easy night at the office.
Maybe he patrick roy'd it and went to the dugout saying "this is my last game in washington"

I don't know. He's not exactly in his prime, having turned 34 at the beginning of the season. Looking at his stats, I'm guessing he was maybe a setup man that got pulled in for mop up duty: 32 SO in 32.1 innings with a WHIP under 1 with zero saves.
I still think they're making more of it than what it actually is. Maybe there was more stuff that happened in the room and this was the last straw. Don't know.

former Pirates pitcher Esteban Loaiza is probably going away for a long time. The feds didn't like him possessing 44 lbs of coke in a minivan, so he was arrested back in February.
He has a change of plea hearing coming up on Friday, which will get him a lighter sentence than life in prison.
