Jeter didn't hit lots of homers. He never hit more than 24 in a season during an era with watered down pitching due to expansion, plus steroids, plus a juiced ball. His career slugging of .440 is way behind his peers (nomar, arod) and even against the GOATS (Banks, Wagner) from a different era. Singles hitter with a good eye and mediocre range stacked teams.
This is such a “modern baseball” take. He didn’t hit a ton of homers, so should be pegged down? Not everyone is a home run hitter. Career .377 obp. 162 game averages of 15HR, 113 runs and 77 rbi (as mostly lead off and 2 hitter). His defense was spectacular at times, but consistently average at best. Arod was a better shortstop, but also had ped issues. Nomar was great, for a short stretch. Jeter was consistently among the best hitters (not power hitters) for about 17 years. Again, not great defensively, but smart plays. Same with base running. Not the fastest, but 20 steals a year and didn’t make dumb outs. If you’re not looking for a power hitter, he’s incredibly complete.
