Mauer’s value was that he was a good to great hitting catcher. If you compare his numbers to other first basemen, he has no chance at the Hall.
Exactly. That's why the BR link for catchers across WAR and everything else makes a strong case imo if you can conclude he was a catcher. this isn't a discussion if he had played first base or was a DH for 90% of his games. He would be a classic hall of very good guy but for he played C most of the time the first 8 or so years of his career

What are Paul Molitor's games played at position %s? Where would one find that info?
https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... pa01.shtml

Check out the Standard Fielding section and then do some math.

Paul Molitor was inducted as a 3B. He played 791 at 3B out of 1495, or 52.9%.

I'm not sure I buy the games played at X position argument for Mauer, but would be willing to accept Molitor as an exception to the rule. Though Molitor is a much superior hitter.
Paul Molitor's hitting numbers get him in independently at 3b or 2b (he played a combined 1200 of his 1500 games at 2b or 3b)

Eight years isn’t enough, imo. He needed to do it longer, or have more seasons that approached his 2009 season to be HOF. His numbers are somewhat similar to Jorge Posada, who played much more of his career at catcher, but is definitely not a hall of famer.

I usually agree with at least one of the PTI guys on most tpissues but the fact that they both think deGrom shouldn't win the Cy Young because of his win loss record is absolutely ridiculous imo.

Saw a stat on Sportscenter that he has the longest streak in a single season for most starts while giving up 3 runs or less. That's pretty darn good

Judging a pitcher by their win loss is extremely flawed

Mrs Tif and I are going to the Rockies @ Giants game tonight. Since I know nothing about baseball, please provide me with a brief primer on these two professional sports teams, and this match up so that I may be able to randomly spout information out that makes me sound reasonably knowledgeable.

The Giants suck, but root for them. If the Rockies win the division, that could box the Dodgers out of the playoffs and the Dodgers are the only NL team that can save us from the Cubs making the WS.

The last time we went was one of the most entertaining sporting events I've ever been to. Saw MadBum pitch something like seven scoreless innings with only 1 hit; saw Yasiel Puig play (he was a phenom as a rook, but I gather he's petered out?); saw a pair of fans invade the field, one of whom was tackled by a player called 'Angel Pagan', which is the best name in the history of the world; had fantastic food and beverage options; our seats were 1-2 in the last row of the section, which was on the concourse level, which meant we were literally like ten steps from beer; and the Giants had like a seven or eight run inning in the middle of the game with two home runs.

I don't even like baseball, but that was a fun night.

If the Giants lose tonite, you can say that you were there when they set a record -- longest losing streak in San Francisco....at least until they lose tomorrow too.

Best players for Colorado -- Story at shortstop (hits moonshots), Lemahieu at 2nd (really good hitter), Arenado at 3rd (working on being the modern-day Brooks Robinson).

The Giants? Well, they'll be happy when the season is done. The best part of the Giants right now is that stadium and I'm a big fan of the sight lines and the ambiance around that place.

AT&T Park is the best sports venue I've ever been to. Twice for baseball and once for a charity event. Place is great. Turns out, Mrs Tif bought tix in the same section we were in last time, four or five rows lower down.

Complete game, two-hit shutout by the Gigantes' pitcher guy, with 7 Ks.

Rooting against the cubs does at least creates some interest going into the playoffs.

But that means I'm rooting for Milwaukee. Yuck
