No, but A-Rod was the best SS on the team. ;)

I think the run Thome had from 95-02 is HOF worthy. That he played for a long time doesn't change that.

ok so jeter had the most WAR of yankee position players in 1998, 1999, 2006, and 2009. In 2006 Chin Meng Wang had more WAR then him. In 2001 Bernie was the only guy with more war.

in 2011-2014 he was pure trash.

arod had more war than him 4 times

Agree on Bonds.
Also, as consistently good as Thome was, he was never really considered one of the top players of his generation. He’s a tough one for me. Is it as good to put up very good numbers for 20 years to put up amazing numbers for 12 - 15 years?
Lets put it this way: there was only a handful of seasons where thome was the best hitter on his team let alone the league. Granted he played with some greats, but even then, you gotta stand out at least one in a while.

that was always my gripes with jeter, too.
Who are the shortstops that are better than Jeter all-time? Very short list. Jeter was the best player on most of the teams he played on.
Jeter played with A-Rod most of his career, right?
About half, and in some of those years he was better than Arod. But teams can have more than one HOF caliber player.

2012 was trash? 316/362/429 with 15 HR and 216 hits.
WAR is definitely a valuable tool, but not the only one. Do you really think that Jeter is not a Hall of Fame caliber player?

Brewers traded their top prospect and two other top ten prospects for Christian Yelich and the signed Lorenzo Cain to a 5 year deal worth $80mm. Still pursuing Darvish and/or Arrieta.

Pirates bout to get their **** pushed in within the division.

Lorenzo Cain, not Matt. I think Matt Cain retired after this past season.

All the Pirates needed to do was get some team to give them an all star third baseman.

I mean, they could have followed through on your pipe dream of signing Mike Moustakas.

As far as the Jeter WAR/Hall of Fame from before, based on the JAWS (career WAR averaged with their 7-year peak WAR) numbers at Baseball Reference:

Shortstop:
1.) Honus Wagner
2.) Alex Rodriguez
3.) Cal Ripken
4.) George Davis
5.) Robin Yount
6.) Arky Vaughn
7.) Ernie Banks
8.) Ozzie Smith
9.) Luke Appling
10.) Bill Dahlen
11.) Alan Trammell
12.) Derek Jeter

ARod, Dahlen, and Jeter are the only ones in the top 15 that aren't yet in the Hall. JAWS obviously can't take everything into consideration, but it's an interesting way to compare.

Others of note at other positions:
C - Mauer at 7 is the highest not yet in. Posey is at 18, right ahead of the great Jason Kendall at 19.
1B - Pujols is at 2, behind Loue Gehrig. Thome is 10, Cabrera 11. McGwire is back at 17.
2B - Cano is 8 and Utley is 10, but both are below the average score for 2B HOFers.
3B - Beltre is 4, Chipper Jones 6. Scott Rolen at 10 and Edgar Martinez at 11 are both ahead of the average score for 3B HOFers.
LF - Bonds at 1 and Pete Rose at 5. Manny at 10 is also ahead of the average score for LF HOFers.
CF - Beltran at 8, Kenny **** Lofton at 9, Trout already at 10. All three trail the average score for CF HOFers, but not by much. Cutch is at 36.
RF - Clemente is 6. Larry Walker is the only guy in the top 10 who isn't in the Hall. Waner at 11, Gwynn 14, Shoeless Joe 13, Ichiro 16, Sosa 18, Vlad 21.
SP - Clemens is the only guy in the top 15 not in the Hall. Schilling and Mussina also have scores better than the position average.
RP- Rivera is at 2 behind Eckersley. Only 4 players are above the position average. Trevor Hoffman is back at 21.

I wonder if Ichiro will play this year? He says he wants to play until he's 50.

2016 was a rebound season of sorts for him, but 2017 was a sharp decline that was closer to his 2013-15 performance. If he wants to keep playing my guess is he ends up back in Japan.

Indians will stop using Chief Wahoo on uniforms etc. starting next season.

Evidently, they were going to lose out on the All-Star game next season if they didn't pull the logo.

Since the first time I saw that 25 years ago and it has never ceased to be such an obscene strawman. Literally every human mascot of every professional and Collegiate team is a gross caricature of its intended namesake.

What would even be a close comparable that’s not also a Native American mascot? Only one i can come up with is Padres.
