Whoa. What's their next move
Probably rentals. This was the Brewers thinking they are they Rays by swapping a short term asset for a long term one. As far as I can tell, the best piece they got back was the Padres closer.

Cashing out when chips are the highest. They got a good closer in return plus other assets. FA after next season and probably will cost way to much for a mid-market team.

I kind of like it honestly. Savvy move to cash out on a really good asset.

Seems like a smart move. Closers are pretty over-rated.

Hader’s ERA is also +4 for the first time in his career. Might just be a blip but I’m guessing the Brewers are looking to get value out of a depreciating asset

All this doesn't matter. Will be Dodgers vs Yankees in the dumbest World Series ever.

The twelfth highest salary team has won more World Series (3) in the last 10 years than the highest salary (1).

Are you implying that winning doesn't correlate with higher payrolls?

Lol, no. Just that having the highest payroll doesn’t mean you’re going to win. You can spend a lot of money poorly and won’t win. You can spend a little money wisely and can win. The latter is definitely harder.

2021: #13 payroll beats #7 in WS
2020: #2 payroll beats #27 in WS
2019: 7 beats 8
2018: 1 beats 3
2017: 18 beats 1
2016: 14 beats 24
2015: 16 beats 21
2014: 7 beats 19
2013: 4 beats 10
2012: 8 beats 5

Salaries vary slightly based on where you look, so the rankings change. A high salary certainly gives you a good chance to make the playoffs. However, winning the World Series doesn’t seem to just be a matter of spending the most. Much more often than not, well run teams win. Spending a lot and being well run gives you the best chance of course, but you still need a hot pitching staff to win.

Major blip. On July 13th and July 15th he pitched 0.1IP and gave up 9ER.

Rest of the season? 33.2IP 7ER

Damn, and they got josh bell.

The padres have dealt so many prospects the last few years, have any of them actually amounted to anything?

Max fried? But that was for upton I think, they’ve already sold off players from that era

The O's trade their closer and Mancini while they're 2.5 games out of the wild card. MLB is so stupid sometimes

Gore - 3rd overall 2017
Abrams - 6th overall 2019
Hassell - 8th overall 2020
Wood - 62nd overall 2021
Susana - signed for $1.7M in 2022

So they end up with a star SS, probable star OF, 2nd potential star OF, and a good to great starter. Plus Hosmer and a teenager international prospect

Soto is a great example of why the MLB sucks.

There's basically 8 relevant teams and others that pop in and out. Players use the rest of the league to audition themselves to be acquired by those 8. Teams pop up for a year here or there and hell maybe they even win. But essentially there are 3 leagues. The super league, the league, and the sub league.

Super league is Yankees, Mets, red Sox, dodgers, Astros, cardinals, padres (they spent their way in)

Sub league is pirates, Marlins, Rays, A's, orioles
