I have steadfastly refused to watch baseball for several years now, but there’s just something about watching my Phillies fan friends on FB start the season supremely confident and before May was out ready to fire everyone.

And all of these pitchers won't survive their initial contract. If they would have taken a pay cut and stayed with the Bucs, they could have been Hall of FamersMusgrove goes 7.2 innings of no hit ball and ties Padres record for most consecutive QS to start a season (10)

lol Angels fired Maddon. What a sorry franchise they are. I hope they trade Ohtani and Trout so they can be on actually competitive teams
MLB
Maddon is a turd and deserves to be flushed.

Also completely useless trivia I just realized: both managers fired this week had last year’s MVPs for their respective leagues (and both are named Joe)

So a kid my dad used to coach, Michael Turner, transferred from Kent to Arkansas this year for his final year. Been awesome all year, moved his draft stock way up, yada yada. This radio guy says some really shitty stuff about him below.
Turner subsequently wins the MVP for their regional last week and then signs this NIL deal. Incredible

Yeah, if he's a grad student he may be in one of his classes in Fayetteville.

I am not that much into sports, and I usually start following Razorbacks baseball only after they make post-season (year after year) - but this story was big enough even for me to notice last week. The ESPN guy was fiercely criticized for being this big of an idiot. He got suspended and eventually had to make a big apology. Which he did - and then continued with his criticism of "cancel culture."So a kid my dad used to coach, Michael Turner, transferred from Kent to Arkansas this year for his final year. Anyway - Turner is great for turning this into an awesome NIL story.
@DigitalGypsy66 : not many active athletes choose to go for MBA (there are easier master programs, plus ours takes 2 years). But I had last year's baseball player of the year and this year's world's No. 5 decathlon performer in my last 2 classes.

My previous employer's grad athletes do an MS in Collegiate Sports Management, which is a 16-month program with no research required. MBA program is a bit too much for most of them.

Hawk has always annoyed me but this looks great.

Ohtani might be better than he was last year. I don't hear much about him, seems like the baseball world is just used to it now. But he should basically be the MVP for the duration of his career if he continues to just be slightly above average as a hitter and pitcher.

The absolute suck that is the LAAoA finally caught up to the Ohtani and Trout hype train. There are good, interesting players on teams that aren’t perennial suck asses getting the attention this year.
