The 1960 Mazeroski home run game was 2:37 minutes. 10-9 score, nine pitchers used, 24 hits.

If games were well under 3 hours for decades, why can't they be now? Can't say "That's always how it was"

I'm not sure what's weird about a take that questions the absolute need for this new thing when it didn't exist for 170 years of competition at the highest level of that competition. I'm all about shortening games, and KtK brings up a great point, but I'm just worried that it could result in 'unintended consequences'. Again, it seems like pitchers and hitters are just a bit rushed. Maybe that doesn't affect the quality of each at bat, and maybe it does.

Maybe extend the clock another 5 or 10 seconds, and enforce the balk rule (or have umpires hold the pitcher until the batter is set) and to me it maybe wouldn't seem so rushed. Again, not arguing the premise, just the execution.

Hell, why not eliminate warmup pitches in between each inning...pitchers can sit in the bullpens and warm up there. That would be, what, about 6 minutes each inning? About 50 minutes of each game? Can't do that, though, cause when would we have the commercials?

My guess is curiosity about the pitch clock.

they're “rushed” because for so long we were exposed to Clay Buchholz circling around the mound for 40 seconds or a batter fixing their batting gloves for the 8th time. But I’m sure the players will get to the point of comfortability because this is the pace that baseball games have had for decades prior

PTI did a story about how stolen bases are up in spring training. I like this. Stolen bases are my favorite play in baseball

Yesterday I learned that MLB network is no longer on YouTube tv.

This could go in either the Pens or Bucs threads but what happens on 4/1 with ATT SportsNet. Will they just shut down?

That's a great question - not sure anyone knows what will happen.

I would imagine MLB will pick up the tab with the Pirates for their season. I think the Pirates pay Brown/Block/Walk/Wehner etc. Eventually, they'll probably stream the games free to the Pittsburgh geographic area, and with an MLB.tv sub everywhere else.

Penguins broadcasters are paid by AT&T Sportsnet, so the Penguins would have to hire them to finish out the season. Which at that point, is only a few more regular season games and maybe the first round of the playoffs. ESPN does the playoffs, right? Not that this particular team is going to be playing much longer than the regular season finale unfortunately.

Lately the first round has been carried by the local network.

BuT mUh TrAdItIoNs.

I value traditions, but the cumulative effect of the new rules is that baseball is being turned back to 1970. But since there is a clock in the corner it's bad.

Hats the thing that amazes me the most about this. “Traditionalists” will complain that the pitch clock is non-traditional but it’s a solution that will make the game closer to its traditional gameplay than it’s been in the last 20 plus years

Bob Gibson didn’t use to stroke his dick for 30 seconds between each pitch like they do now

The WBC - I wish it was mid season with some more eyes on it, with some better players. But the rosters this year are decent. Some of the scenes I've seen from the Asian pool and the Venezuela v Dominican games were awesome though. Baseball culture is so much more fun internationally than it is here

How can anyone in the highest of leadership positions with the Pirates not want that?? Every time I see video from that game, I want to drown Nutting in all three rivers.

So good. My dad had two tix and gave them to me and my brother since he's seen playoff games before and didn't wanna pick between us. Such a fun time and I feel bad he wasn't there every once in a while. A good dad move though
