Why is 70 not feasible? They could play until end of September, then start playoffs.

I'm assuming they want spring training in some capacity so if they start spring training on Monday and its 3 weeks long, and they start the season around 7/15 they can still get 70 in by the end of september.

I'm guessing they need more than a weekend's notice to start spring training. They're pretty much down to the wire for 70 unless they want to play into october.

The only people affiliated with baseball right now that are winning are the Houston Astros.

Considering average revenue is $330 million per team, this projected loss per team would seem acceptable to garner fan support and avoid a loss of season.

a 3 week spring training would set every pitcher to "whine like a baby" mode and turn it up to 11

Players voted 33-5 against the 60 game proposal. Owners have now cited the March 26th agreement and have asked the players to indicate by 5pm tomorrow if 1) they are able to report within 7 days and 2) if they sign off on the league's health and safety measures.

The players are setting themselves up to file a grievance to help in next years CBA negotiations.

Baseball would be better with something other than MLB running the show.

You'll get some BS 50 game "season" with a bunch of guys not playing. I can see guys like trout, harper, Cole electing not to play. Then a lame duck season next year with, as buster said, free agents getting **** on. Then a lockout in 2022.

I do think it would have been smart for mlb to come to a compromise with the players, but I’m not sure what positives come out of this for them.

So 40 games within your own division and 20 games against the other leagues local division.

What's next? Are they gonna turn the stadium lights out at 11:00 on school nights so they don't disrupt kids' sleep schedules like its a game at millineum effing field in bethel park?

due to the truncated season, which single season records are likely to be broken? clearly the counting stats will not happen but averages - batting average? era? do starting pitchers work on less rest?

There are innings and plate appearance qualifiers for those records, so i don’t think any records will be broken. They’ll probably have a “winner” in each category, but will get an asterisk in the yearly record book.

Actually, they’re based on number of PAs and innings pitched per game, so technically could be broken, but I’d assume with an asterisk since the threshold will be so much lower.
