From AP:
This guy should never see another game in the majors if he's gonna act like that. The worst part is the crew chief backs him up mainly because he has to. If the ump had already thrown one on his own then it makes sense for the catcher to think 'oh yeah, he's gonna throw it'. The other part that makes no sense is why does he go to slam the ball into the glove? There has never been a time when I've slammed a ball into the catcher's mitt after a foul ball or passed ball with no one on base. It's rare for me to throw one myself since I'll either short-hop it or airmail it (damn restrictor plate shoulder pad). Randy Rosenberg is the dope's full name and I hope he doesn't see another MLB inning. But this is the same group that employs CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez so I'm not holding out much hope.“I said, ‘Dude, I thought you were throwing the ball,’” Realmuto told the newspaper. “He said, ‘I’m not gonna buy that.’”
Rosenberg has been called up from Triple-A for 39 regular season MLB games between 2020-22, according to retrosheet.org. Crew chief Dan Iassogna defended Rosenberg’s decision to the Inquirer after the game.
“Did Randy act hastily? No,” Iassogna said. “I believe Randy felt like the situation warranted an ejection, and that’s what he did.”

I mean the implication is that JT pulled his glove back on purpose to make him look dumb, which is just outrageous because he wasn't looking back and obviously couldn't see he was about to give him the ball. Had to have just thought it's been a few seconds and he's throwing it himself. Turd

It’s interesting because that ump has an attribute that I read in a random throwaway comment from Reddit. As anyone here who has referring experience can attest, **** is difficult. Hell, I umped little league when I was in middle school. Even worse than the bad calls I made were the calls where I wasn’t sure and would half heartedly call. Despite me being only like 14, the parents would rip me apart for it
Pro umps/refs have to have a complex where they’re convinced they’re right. They deal with so much **** every game they go to, even if they call a good game, that you pretty much have to be pretty **** sure of yourself to make it to the big time
The ump here was obviously wrong. Realmuto did nothing but accidentally disrespect him. I feel like the ump even realizes it when they’re arguing him. But of course he can’t go back and reverse the call even if it was a mistake because showing weakness in your call can be seen as being “wrong”. I don’t agree with it personally but I could see this being a major complex a lot of pro umps/refs have

i never got it either. i assumed i was not able to think of a hayes that stole a ton of bases. Does he mean he plays like willie mays but runs like himself? I mean, Willie Mays was pretty fast and stole a lot of bases I thoughtI never understood...we all know who Willie Mays is but who the **** is (Willie?) Hayes?

Yes, this was a really insightful post...
