Wonder how they go about conducting a draft in June (if we all survive), when there’s not going to be any college or high school baseball.

Good point. There is a lot I bet they haven't thought through. You can't skip a year, but I guess you'd have to have like a giant combine or something.

It’s ironic given what they were trying to do to minor league baseball this year, but I would expand the draft and the number of minor league teams for a season. Every franchise gets an extra team in a “developmental league” where you can judge how good your scouting of high school juniors and college sophomores actually was. Work out a deal with the NCAA where if the high school kids don’t get paid (like the Cape Cod League and **** like that), they maintain their amateur eligibility and head to college for the spring semester.

I think they'd have the draft but say you're a draft eligible junior, are you eligible? Or are you eligible next year after your new junior year since they're giving spring athletes an extra year?

Not playing 162 would be a better move. I propose dumping Interleague play (20 games) for a season OR get really radical with it and completely re-align into a Western League and Eastern League, both with a DH, 30 man rosters, less days off, and scheduled double headers. Cuts down on travel, less concern about player fatigue due to the expanded rosters, and DH means games should move more quickly when we’re not pinch hitting for scrub ass pitchers.

Below is a snipped from the article.. The plan sounds awful. If that is what is needed to start playing again right now... then don't play right now it's simple. I don't see the players going for that either.

"The plan, sources said, would dictate that all 30 teams play games at stadiums with no fans in the greater Phoenix area, including the Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field, 10 spring training facilities and perhaps other nearby fields. Players, coaching staffs and other essential personnel would be sequestered at local hotels, where they would live in relative isolation and travel only to and from the stadium, sources said. "

I'd say there is about a 10% chance that will happen. I'm with Madden, no sports until this is over.

Agree. That sounds horrible. I know the players make millions and sacrifices are expected with that, but to be sequestered from your family for god knows how long, that is not going to fly.

I miss sports just as much as anyone. But not that much if this is the plan.

I was all in until they said players would sit in the stands 6 feet apart instead of the dugout and they would go to an electronic strike zone (which I'm not against) so umps wouldn't be near the players (which is just dumb if the catcher is a foot from the batter).

If they're testing everyone and keeping isolated in one location then just play as normal. If it's not safe enough to play as normal then wait until it is

Yeah, these measures seem incredibly stupid. If they are able to establish the control environment where they can transport the entire sport into one city, these measures would not provide any additional safety.

Yeah, I don’t get the six feet apart thing. If they’re essentially living in a bubble, it seems that separation wouldn’t be any more beneficial than any other type of interactions they would have on or off the field.

What happens when Altuve takes a fastball to the dome and benches clear? A brawl where everyone stands six feet apart from each other?
