Luckily for Giants fans it’s not like they gave up anything of value for him.

If you haven't seen the way the Astros beat the Padres 1-0 on Saturday night, please find it and then explain to me why the pitcher isn't allowed to catch a popup that is right in front of him.

As someone that's played my entire life, I've never understood it. If it's behind them, sure, bail because you don't want them to trip backpedaling over the mound. But in front, just creates confusion because it isn't anyone's ball clearlyIf you haven't seen the way the Astros beat the Padres 1-0 on Saturday night, please find it and then explain to me why the pitcher isn't allowed to catch a popup that is right in front of him.

A single game brought Cutch’s average from .083 to .258.

.@TheCUTCH22 is the first player with a #walkoff homer with his team trailing in the 14th inning or later since … Andrew McCutchen (7/11/15 vs STL).

Shohei Ohtani is the 3rd player in MLB history to get 2 wins as a pitcher and hit 3 HR in his team's first 10 games of a season.
The last man to do that was Jim Shaw in 1919.

By Game Score, Shohei Ohtani just pitched the best game of the season (90). By wRC+, Shohei Ohtani has been the second-best offensive player in baseball (278), minimum 10 plate appearances
The last pitcher who within his first two career starts had a game in which he went at least 7 innings, allowed 1 hit or fewer, 1 walk or fewer and struck out at least 12: Steve Woodard in 1997. Before that: Juan Marichal in 1960. And that's it. Ever. Ohtani joined them today.

Not quite sure how you throw 100 mph with that windup but sweet jeebus he threw some pitches that were genuinely unhittable. If he keeps hitting those spots, he will be a really good pitcher in this league.
I will have reservations about his hitting though for no reason other than it is hard to hit.

I wonder if 30 years from now we're looking back to this year as when the change took place. Teams no longer using starters past 5-6 innings so the pitchers worked more on hitting to be a useful roster spot on days off. Probably not but interesting to think about.

Ho lee sht, I just read about Stanton's "performance".I’d like to see him do well, but I’m skeptical he can maintain.
In other news, how many players have struck out five times twice this early in the year?
He went 0-7 with five strikeouts. To make matters worse for the Yanks, they were down one run in the bottom of the 12th, and had the bases loaded. Aaron Judge promptly hit into a GIDP, and Stanton struck out to end the game. If those guys can't deliver in that spot, when will they deliver?

Giancarlo Stanton is the first player in the live ball era to have 2 games with 0 hits and 5 strikeouts in the same season.
It's April 8th.
