I feel really good for chuck Morton. He took a lot, A LOT of criticism, much of it mean spirited, especially when he first pitched here. And he was awful his first few years. Hell, he was pretty awful at times even when he was at his best. That being said, he is one of the few athletes that seems like a thoughtful, decent person.

It may be weird that he wins game 7 of the World Series, but nothing will ever touch the bizarre return of Vogelsong to win a World Series.

Buccos take note that making a big deadline signing can win you a World Series. Now to my time machine to head to 2015.
Not to disagree but who was the Astros big signing?

Wait how does Morton get the win when the Astros were leading before he even entered?

Starter didn't go 5 innings so the W is at the official scorer's discretion

The nice thing about chaz in the playoffs is that he can avoid one of his signature moves, an awesome start through like 5 or 6 innings, and then he goes out in the next inning and goes hit, hit, two run double or something like that. he can't have nice things

He can thank DK for that. I remember DK absolutely gushing over the guy when he was first traded to the Pirates. Calling him the next Roy Halladay and getting all buddy-buddy with him and his guitar.

Pirates fans ate it up and thought it was all Chaz's fault.

No, but I think he had a weird fascination with his dog, if I'm remembering correctly.

Every time a team like the Astros wins a WS, it just drives home how shtty and futile our management and team is. The Royals, Astros, and Cubs have all overcome decades of futility to win a World Series in the last 3-4 years. Meanwhile, #SUCN continues the proud tradition.

Sports went from the 1960 Pirates to the 2009 Penguins between road teams winning a championship in a Game 7.
Since then:

'14 SF Giants
'16 Cavs
'16 Cubs
'17 Astros

The Royals are the only reasonable comparison there. The Cubs and Astros are big market teams that deliberately tanked for draft picks. The Pirates futility was more a result of incompetence than any deliberate effort to rebuild. They just weren't lucky enough to land franchise players for the left side of their infield when they had top picks. (should've draft Machado)

Roy Halladay died. Wrecked his plane. Man that's sad. Has two kids and coaches their teams.

I was thinking that Thurmon Munson was the last MLB player to die in a small plane crash, but then remembered Cory Lidle.

I was afraid this might be the case, and it speaks to what was mentioned earlier about how it seems like he just rushed into flying and did not pay proper enough respect to the danger involved. I can't imagine taking risks like that with a wife and two young kids.

Beltran retiring. One of the main reasons I was pulling for Houston in the World Series.
