Scherzer scratched, turns out he's both old and human. Ross filling in on short rest. Whoo-boy.

This home plate ump is inconsistent with the zone.

It's not why they're losing, but the home plate umpire has been blowing it out of his ass on both sides tonight.

I get it if you’re not going to call the outside corner. Just be consistent with it. That last pitch to Robles was further outside than many he’d called balls. But, yes, definitely not why they’re losing.

We posted simultaneously, fwiw. I wasn't disageeing. There was a pitch much earlier in the game where the ball was entirely in the zone for the whole pitch and he called it a ball. Seems it was part of a trend.

How is this not automated?

It’ll take years, but I think it will get there.

There were better sights behind the home plate ump imo

Jeff Passan has been the most vocal crusader in the MLB media for automated balls/strikes. F the "human element"

Sometimes you just miss a pitch, though you can't be missing the pitches that are on the inside part of the plate since that's where you're set up. But then if you blame it on the catcher, then you're really grasping for straws.

So that wasn’t a reviewable play. The umps were reportedly communicating with NY about the protest and not reviewing, but came out after and reiterated Turner was our. Very weird situation.

It was a horrifically bad call. I don't know how an umpire who is watching the runner like he is can't see that he's about to step on the bag as contact with the fielder's glove is made. The runner has a right to that base, where else is he supposed to step? At least Rendon cleared it up. Ball don't lie.

Why take Strasburg out now? Pitched great, has a reasonable number of pitches, won’t pitch tomorrow.
