A good day if you like brawls...

Padres and Rockies get into it after Perdomo threw behind Arenado
Yankees and Red Sox clear them twice...first after a Travis Austin slide into 2nd spiked Holt and they had words. Then later, Austin got plunked and he charged the mound.

Gerrit Cole had 14 strikeouts in 93 pitches, which is some sort of record. Another record is his 36 strikeouts in three games.

Barbara Bush was a big baseball fan, and often kept score during games:

Glad she got to see the Astros win it all last year.

Jose Bautista has signed a minor league deal with the Braves and will play third base.

I didn't even realize he was out of Toronto. He probably could have gotten about $60 million more than he got from Toronto, but he was pushing for that five year contract.

I'm kind of happy that the Red Sox are completely wrecking the Yankee hype train. I feel like the baseball world was conceding a rematch between Houston and NYY in the ALCS.

The first no-hitter of the year is in the books. Oakland's Sean Manaea no-hits the blistering-hot Red Sox on 106 pitches.

Well this is terrible:
Friday’s Astros-White Sox game took a suddenly tragic turn in the sixth inning when Chicago reliever Danny Farquhar vomited and collapsed in the dugout. He was rushed to a local hospital, where tests confirmed that he’d suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in stable but critical condition. A few days later, Farquhar’s condition has not changed. White Sox VP Ken Williams told USA Today that the pitcher required another surgery Saturday to relieve swelling around the brain.

Cutch is currently hitting 205 despite going 6 for 7 with a double and home run in that one game. without that game, he is hitting .148 and slugging 308

Incorrect. I rely on swarm, vitriol, and facts that support my swarm and vitriol. Like when McCutchen sucked ass for all of 2016 except for his two game stint in Denver. Cold, hard, vitriolic facts.

exactly dickie loved taking out all of Cutch's good games to show how bad he was in his bad games. Which coincidentally was like 90% of his season but whatever

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/th ... pointless/
Cycles of winning and then rebuilding are nothing new in baseball, but this year’s cellar dwellers may have been especially emboldened to bottom out after watching the Astros and Cubs take that route on their way to winning the last two World Series. Each team’s title run was preceded by years of spectacular losing, serving as two proofs of the idea that a controlled franchise demolition can help pave the way for 100-win seasons and October parades. In addition, the era of owners and fans being content with a ballclub that’s merely respectable is seemingly over; if you’re not contending for a championship, the thinking goes, you may as well not even try to win at all.
Imagine how many things about baseball could be fixed with a salary cap/floor.

Trout hit an absolute bomb of a homer yesterday. 524 ft.
