Isn't Schilling the guy who said baseball writers are some of the worst people he ever knew and called the scumbags? Color me shocked that those same people don't want to vote for him.

I felt a little bad about being snarky with you on this. Then I got to thinking about it from a lawyerly perspective. What are they actually voting for.TIL it's the personal ethics hall of fame.
Oh.Voting — Voting shall be based upon the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.

Personal ethics are a consideration.
And since he was borderline at best to begin with, the exclusion seems appropriate.

Pete Rose?
I think Schilling is an edge case and this is a plant/grow situation. Antagonist treated poorly by society. I am okay with it.

It's also relevant in the current day though, because Schilling is not in. It's not like we can retroactively be like "Oh Ty Cobb was a vehement racist and by the integrity clause doesn't belong in the Hall".
The values changed along with society.

Yeah, fair. I think in a no social media world he would have an easier time.

Schilling is not in for the similar reasons to why Dave Parker is not in. Had an adversarial relationship with the writers that didn't improve after they retired.
There are plenty of examples of guys who kissed the media's derriere and who got in and probably shouldn't have.
At the end of the day it's a sports hall of fame so not something anyone should get their dander up about.
And never feel bad about giving me a hard time. I usually deserve it.

Dave Parker has better numbers than several guys in the hall, including Tim Raines and Jim Rice.

Raines and rice are both borderline for me. Rice’s numbers were better than Parker’s. His counting numbers were similar (30 less runs, 250 less hits, 12 more rbi, 43 more HR) despite 1000 less ABs. Rices OBP and SLG both quite a bit higher. Parker’s only real significant edge was steals.Dave Parker has better numbers than several guys in the hall, including Tim Raines and Jim Rice.
Raines is a more difficult comparison because of him being a completely different type of player. Obviously a ton more steals and a huge obp advantage, with much lower power numbers. His advantage is he was the second best lead off hitter of his era, behind only Henderson. Plus, his nickname was Rock, which is pretty funny.

The Rockies basically gave him away for a few middling prospects and they paid the Cards $50 million.
Baseball is broken.
