Look at this, Mike Trout hitting his 42nd home run in Texas this afternoon:

There must about ~200 fans in the stadium.

Eh. It's 100 degrees in Arlington, it's game one of a doubleheader starting on a Tuesday afternoon, and they're a long ways out from a playoff spot. Who the **** would go watch that?

Ex-Mets Octavio Dotel and Luis Castillo are both reportedly involved in a drug trafficking ring in their native Dominican Republic.

The two former Amazin’s standouts have also been linked to a money laundering network, according to DR attorney general Jean Rodriguez. Dotel was arrested in a sting that’s being billed as the “largest operation against organized crime” in the history of the Dominican Republic. The authorities are still searching for Castillo.

Rodríguez said police are also actively pursuing the alleged leader of the ring, César Emilio Peralta, also known as “César the Abuser.”

“Eighteen other people are linked to this network, including athletes and baseball players Octavio Dotel and Luis Castillo,” Rodríguez said in a news conference

Details are still incomplete, but reports are emerging about the alleged crimes and what sort of properties have been seized.

CDN.com reported that much of the drug trafficking business was being conducted from inside nightclubs.

Dominican authorities claim both Dotel, 45, and Castillo, 43, were members of a powerful drug gang that got dismantled Tuesday. There were 20 luxury apartments, 15 nightclubs and 10 restaurants seized, according to Antonio Puesan. Periodista Deportivo’s Hector Gomez added that Dotel had four cars seized.

This. I was in that area last weekend. The heat is a different kind of heat; just draining.

This is a cool story: Vlad Guerrero Jr.'s grandmother lives in Toronto and cooks for him, his teammates, and opponents. Did the same for his dad (and uncles) back in the day, too. All she requires is that you return the plastic container.

Also some strange line of the story about how a team employee may have been involved. So not sure what that could be

His family is in denial and is trying to blame some team lackey who went out to get his fix for him.

yeah i'd say accidental overdose (wasn't trying to kill himself). and accidently (didn't know) there was fentynol in his heroin. but the way it's written makes it almost sound like he accidentally took multiple drugs.

I get that the Pirates attendance is baaaaaaaaaaaad but look at this shot of the game-winning homer for the Reds against the Phils (yessssssssssssss). This stadium is virtually empty. I get that they are not a contender, but this has to be concerning in general for baseball, no? Does anyone have the year-over-year attendance numbers/capacities for the whole league?

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leag ... misc.shtml

Going into today the league was 945,476 behind last season, which averages out to a drop of 452 per game. Reds have the 6th highest increase at 2,202 per game. Tickets sold instead of turnstile count helps hide baseball's attendance problems. The most recent increase I could find was from 2014 to 2015, when league attendance increased by 20,408, which is 8 asses per game.

2010: 30,072
2011: 30,229
2012: 30,806
2013: 30,451
2014: 30,346
2015: 30,366
2016: 30,132
2017: 29,909
2018: 28,660
2019: 28,361*

The 2019 number will inevitably fall as the season drags to a close and even with the jump from 2010 to 2012, the league has currently lost 1,711 fans per game since the beginning of the decade and 2,445 since the peak in 2012. Games are too long, the season is too long, too many teams can't or won't compete, too many teams are out of contention before July, etc. There's inherent problems in the sport and structure of the league that aren't easy to fix.

Dave Dombrowski fired a season after getting the Red Sox another championship. They are 8-9 games above .500 and considered a failure.

What will it take for Huntington to get fired?

Gerrit Cole's outing yesterday: 8 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 15 Ks, 96 pitches

HOW DO YOU STRIKE OUT 15 BATTERS OVER 8 INNINGS AND ONLY THROW 96 PITCHES?!?!

I wish I could see a talent like him pitch to contact.
