Yep. I probably watched that game back in the day with my grandmother (who was a huge Sox fan).

Um...

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2655 ... -recording
The Yankees have suspended the use of Kate Smith's recording of "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch while they investigate an allegation of racism against the late singer.

The New York Daily News reported Thursday there are conflicting claims about Smith's 1939 song "That's Why Darkies Were Born." The song originated in the 1931 Broadway revue "George White's Scandals" and was considered satire, but includes racist language. It was recorded by Smith and also by Paul Robeson, who was black.

Melancon and Watson on the move again?

SFGiants telling teams they are willing to talk about some of their veteran relievers right now. Believe they have arms at Triple A who could perform at roughly same level. Bumgarner, Smith more likely to move closer to 7/31. Could be best starter and reliever available.

Any baseball fan with Twitter needs to follow this guy. The overlays he does with two pitches show just how dumb it can be to try and hit major league pitching

Bryce Harper struck out two more times tonight going 0-4, and his average has dropped to .240.

Harper also had an error in the field last night. He's always been known for butchering defensive play. Current players on the Phillies with a higher WAR than Harper thus far:
Arrieta
Eflin
Realmuto
Velasquez
Morgan
Eickhoff
McCutchen
Hoskins
Kingery
Neris
Neshek
Hernandez
Nola
Segura

Tim Anderson thinks of himself as a modern day Jackie Robinson, because just like the game needed to change to allow black men to play, today the game needs to change to allow (without retribution) gratuitous bat-flips in the third inning of pointless games. Because all the games Tim Anderson will ever play in will be pointless.

Bat flips are fun. Baseball is lacking in excitement these days. Good for Tim Anderson

He got a ball thrown at his butt. He got on base without any effort. I'm not really sure what the issue is.
I mean, I don't have a problem with showing some excitement. I kind of have a problem in knowing exactly what was going to happen to you and then running your mouth off about it.

But that's his point. Why is there some dumb unwritten rule about tossing your bat that means you get plunked because baseball's boy's club has a stick up their ass when anyone shows any excitement?
