Shazier literally launched his head at every tackle constantly. It was a matter of time before he did what he did, and yes, to me that's a sign of stupidity, or at the very least gambling your future because that's how he got to the NFL.
Yeah, but he was so freaking good.

He was so freaking good at trying to paralyze himself, that's for sure.

I liked him, sad that it happened to him, but won't pretend that what he did wasn't self-inflicted and very poor fundamental form.

He was really good, which is why it's such a shame that he did that to himself. He was so damn explosive on the field.

There were a few posts about him being reckless before the injury. And it wasn't just on this forum either, many people noticed his bad tackling technique. Which means his coaches must have noticed, which puts just as much blame on them as it did on him.

I wouldn't be shocked if Colbert stays on another year. They've interviewed a ton of applicants and no announcement yet. Isn't Colbert out in June?

The Steelers are cheap which makes it tough to hire competent staff.

I believe they are doing more rounds of interview now without Colbert being involved

He was supposed to "move into another role" after the draft. Well, we're waiting, Kevin.

I keep seeing this cheap thing. Not that I'm arguing, but, source?

When they interviewed Riddick there was an article saying the Steelers have both one of the smallest staffs in the league and they also pay them less. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I'd be interested in the paying less part. I know they have a smaller staff, but that doesn't mean it's because they're being cheap

IIRC in regards to paying people cheap, it's why Tomlin runs the show - and nobody with a name really becomes DC/OC unless they're on the downturn and HAVE to sign that deal to stay in the league.

At least that's how I always viewed it.

Well, the context of the discussion was staff, not talent. But they have seemed to open the coffers this offseason, which I've heard people say is because Ben is gone.

I know he was a Cowher hire. But Lebeau was his DC for about half his tenure and I'm not sure he falls into that category. Nor do Haley or Arians imo

Lebeau was a Cowher-DC turnover, but I don't necessarily know if he was being paid like a typical coach.

Arians - came up through the system, IIRC, and it wasn't until after he "retired" he moved on to bigger things.

Haley was a bum, coming off his firing in Arizona, or wherever and needed an OC job because HC was no longer in the running for him.

I think Haley ended up coaching high school before landing in the USFL.

Right, he burned out with the Steelers - then went to the Browns trainwreck and that was it.

We'll agree to disagree on Haley. He was hired away from AZ to be KC's HC after having a really good offense there and was 45 when we hired him as OC. Fired as KC HC

Yea but wasn't there ridiculous amounts of drama surrounding him at KC? Or was that because of the owner? The only thing I remember coming from his tenure at KC was that hot dog gif.

By the time Haley came to the Steelers, he was on the downturn.

Oh absolutely not - he was a guy that needed a job to stay in the league though. He *had* pedigree, but used it up in KC lol. After the Steelers, he fell off almost completely.

I saw something post-draft that said it won't be Brandon Hunt because they like him in his current role to support the new GM, it won't be Khan because he's too business side and not enough football side, and they want someone who has run a draft before, which would eliminate Riddick and anyone else without GM or Ass GM experience.
