5, I'm not sure I've had this many correct letters in the wrong place for this long:
Being on the fourth guess, having three letters but no known locations was tough.

haha I know. But the letters were what my brain said would be a good combo today. I was still eating breakfast and drinking my coffee, so there was no chance my brain knew the word "shout" existed.WTF kind of first word is that?Got mine at the buzzer. Took 3 tries to find the last 2 letters
It could be an engineering term. 1 thou, 2 thous, 3 thous, etc. meaning .001, .002, etc.

So is there an *objective* proven strategy that should have faster expected convergence to correct words (over time)?
I know we don't have many observations yet, but it seems to me that whether I start with a 3-wovel word (something like FOAMY) or use the rstlne strategy (e.g., STERN), the actual number of steps is a total crapshoot based on pure luck. It looks like one has to be terribly unlucky to not get the answer in 6, but whether it is 3,4,5,6 - no real skills are involved...

I think the randomness of the actual word makes it so that there isn't necessarily a best strategy. trying to find the vowels isn't a bad idea but I don't think that gives you really enough information to be a huge advantage
if I really wanted to get a statistical advantage, I suppose I would programmatically count the most popular letters in all five letter words in the english language and try to form a word out of them and use that as my starting word

I think the only strategic imperative is that your first word is 5 different letters. Likely the 2nd as well.

I think tomorrow I’m going to give adieu and north a shot as my first two. All the vowels and a good number of common letters.
