Reminds me of party balls. Those things were our go to in high school lol
Yep, we used to sneak party balls into the bowling alley on a rigged out wheel chair for good times.

If you find yourself in the Greater Burgettstown Area, and with no concerts at Star Lake I'm not sure why you would be.... there is a small brewery/winery at Kramer's Greenhouse (between the Bavington and Burgettstown exits). Good stuff, third time for me getting a growler there today. Mrs. Franchise likes their wines, especially the White Cranberry.

I prefer the Dead Canary IPA, but they were out today so I went with the Nippy Tipple ESB.

Went to Coal Tipple once. All of what I had was good, but Red Devil was the only one that stood out.

Lots of bad hefes out there. It is my favorite style but can be really crappy (UFO comes to mind)

It was just ok for me. There siren saison was the same. Not sure why they called it a saison because it was a fruit drink and fine for that, but come on.

Local distributor had Maine beer co Peeper on tap and that is delicious for these sunny days. $12 for a growler makes it easy to come back to as well.

Another really bad hefe: Magic Hat Circus Boy

And Widmers.

The thing with hefes to me is there's only so much you can do with them. If I've tried one type of hefe, I've also probably tried 50 other ones with the same flavor profile.

Circus Boy is thumbs down as is Great Lakes Lemon Hefe. Widmers is two thumbs down. I think I drainpoured the last one that I had.

Magic Hat Zirkus Boy is good, if I recall. Baltika has a good hefe too.

Weihenstephaner is probably tops for me.

Weihenstephaner is the best hefe, IMO.

Hard to get around here, but Andechs makes a very good one as well. If you get a fresh one it is right up there. I've only ever seen them online or in Ohio.

Another great German one I've only seen in NC is Maisel's Weisse. It's a step down from Weihenstephaner and Andechs, but better than most of the stuff you'll find readily available.

If in Texas, Live Oak Hefe is very good - the best US made hefe I've tried. Really wish it was available here.

A lot of breweries should just stay away from that style, IMO... most do it average at best, some embarrassingly so.

I'll never forget the time a bartender corrected me and told me how to pronounce Weihenstephaner correctly

@MrKennethTKangaroo General Braddock's is finally in cans at $10/4 pack (12 oz.). Other than trying new stuff (which is definitely a worthy consideration), there's little reason to buy anything else in the IPA vein in Pgh at this point.

Also, best potentially off-the-radar rec in the area is Stick City. Everything I've had has been good to great, across different styles, and trusted sources would concur with that take.

Good takes. Though I'm not sure if you were taking a shot at DG's IPAs by saying there is no reason to buy any IPA other than general braddock.

Let the record show i have a 4 back of braddock (Braddick?) in my fridge right now

according to their latest newsletter, the farthest east they are distributed (at this point) is greensburg but keep in mind that they started canning for widespread distribution like two weeks ago

If you are in PA, beverages2u (https://beverages2u.com) is a Pittsburgh area business that will ship you beer and other alcoholic beverages. I used them to have Penn Marzen and some other Pittsburgh based beers shipped to me. It was about a little less than a week from the time I ordered to the time it arrived.

I have been in a weird beer rut where I just haven't felt like drinking beer at all. I'm not happy about it, been on bourbon, wine, seltzers.. beer just makes me feel bloated. Hoping some patio drinking and summer brews will turn things around

Not an intentional shot at anyone, more a commentary on the unbeatability of that price:quality. That said, DG feels a little lame and uninteresting to me. Don't see it growing or branching out in any meaningful way. Most forays into non-IPA ales and lager have obvious off-flavors or not-true-to-style elements. Stouts are mostly all pastry in variety, with lots of unpleasant residual sweetness. Points, at least, for having an identity. More than HH can say.

Just saw that this is at a local distributor:

Might have to stop by if it's as good as the reviews make it seem.

Old Nation Brewing Co.'s M-43.... meh. Don't get me wrong. It's a good beer and I'm going to drink them, but it seemed to be super hyped and I don't see the hype. It's on par with many good NEIPA beers that I've had. I can get something from Troegs, Platform (when I'm in Cleveland), Singlecut, etc. that are better than this beer and far less expensive.

Lawson's Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine... If you're looking for a slightly less bitter and slightly more boozy Fathead's Headhunter, this is your beer. It's good, but again, if I want that style of beer, I'll just grab a Headhunter and enjoy it at a cheaper price.

Yeah, I've been the same way lately. Since the 'rona hit, I haven't drank much at all. The few times I did drink, it was on the course and it was seltzers. One day I wanted something light since it was humid and almost 90, so I switched over to seltzer and it has been my go-to on the course since.

But as far as having real beers since quarantine started in mid-March, I've had maybe three or four times total. Once during Memorial Day since it was with friends that I hadn't seen in forever, once on the North Shore a few weeks ago were we hit a few different places on a Sunday. I ended up feeling bloated and tired after awhile and just didn't feel like drinking. The most recent time was this past Monday where I had two after curling since it was the closest thing I was doing to a birthday celebration.

Most places, including Ross where I live, aren't recycling glass any more, but cans are still highly recyclable, so I've been finding myself leaning toward purchasing canned beer over bottled beer. Canned beer is also more compact and lighter to carry than bottles. Is anyone else making beer decisions by the type of packaging?
