Hit up Strange Roots earlier to pick up some of their Thanksgiving Blend... Also got some Foraged: Crab Apple and Peaches N Dream while I was at it.

Also have my annual beer exchange coming up on Friday... Super excited for that.

Wife got me the 24 bottle winter pack from Sam Adam's today.

All of them are average, not great, not bad. Original Sam still the best of the lot. The Old Fezziweg is not good.

Anyone try this "Midnight Orange" bourbon county stout from Goose Island? I saw it at Wegman's today, but am skeptical, especially at $24 a bottle. I went with a bottle of the regular bourbon county stuff and a bottle of wild elf from Troegs for the same price as just the bottle of midnight orange.

Nice! The last Printemps I had was one of the best Fantome's I've ever had, but it might have been class ft saison in a printemps bottle. Strawberry limeade! fwiw, that bottle was best by end of 2018 with a gold cap (there's basically no way to tell between batches because Dany reuses labels).

Interesting. I'll have to take a look at the cap when I get a chance. It currently still has black tape around it from shipping.

Just had a goddamn tragedy occur. Was all ready to try this Fantome... Pop the cork and the **** basically explodes in my face and sprays nearly to the ceiling, sending most of the precious beer onto the counter and floor.

I was able to salvage a few ounces, but it was impossible not to get yeast.

This is really disappointing... I was really looking forward to this beer and to not get to fully enjoy it is painful.

What I can taste here has a nice limey flavor...

****. So pissed off right now.

Make sure you let them know. Sounds like an infection gone wrong. They’ll likely make it right one way or another.

You never know what surprises the ghost may have in store for you.

I was popping some bottles with @UVM2003 a couple years ago and had this happen with Dark Forest Ghost. It literally geysered to the ceiling. Covered my shirt, Fantome foam dripping down from up above. This is what I was left with:

Only thing you can really do is chill as cold as you can for a good week or so and cross your fingers.

Edit: Oh, and always open Fantome bottles outside.

Dany distributed tire fire level burnt rubber tasting beers for a year because he didn't realize some coil in his system was messed up. I'm afraid all @twc will be getting is a notch on the good-Fantome-story belt.

Recent beers:

Petrus Aged Pale Ale. Nice, solid sour. Had a bit of an apple cider vinegar thing going on. Hid the alcohol well in taste, but I knew it was there after I drank it. Have 3 others by them to try soon.

Bell's Winter White Ale. As you know, I am not much of a Bell's fan. This did little to move the needle. I did have hopes that it would be more interesting based on how cloudy it poured, but it was just "fine".
I like Bell's. But boy, do I feel duped. Winter White Ale has absolutely nothing to do with winter. I know that I was buying "white ale", but I was hoping for at least some kind of interesting variation on the standard concept. And what I got was the most average, basic "white" one can drink...

Now that I have passed the halfway point, I figured it was worth commenting on the beers I've had so far.

Fantome Printemps - Dat explosion. As mentioned, I barely got to try this due to the debacle upon popping the cork. What I tasted seemed good, but not near enough was left to drink. Huge disappointment.

Almanac Wakatu Sour - This one messed with my head a bit since it smelled like a german lager but very much tasted like a sour. It was good though.

Einstok Icelandic White Ale - Really clean tasting wit. Enjoyed this one a lot. If you like wits and have a chance to try it, it's a no-brainer.

Uerige Altbier - Not a style I get to have often, it was good.

Uerige Sticke - Possibly slightly better than the Alt, good of course.

Brasserie de Rochefort Trappistes Rochefort 6 - Good stuff.

Brasserie de Rochefort Trappistes Rochefort 8 - Very good stuff.

Brasserie de Rochefort Trappistes Rochefort 10 - EXCELLENT stuff.

Tre Fontane Tripel - Solid Tripel, but quite a few I like better.

Mahr's Bräu Saphir Weiss - This was really good for a hoppy wheat beer. Nice balance.

Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier Hell - Good hefe. Not in the top tier, but good example of the style.

Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel - Good dunkel weiss... I prefer Ayinger + Weihenstephaner though for sure.

Cellador Gosesque Cherry - This was good... my favorite of this style is still Victory Kriek Gose.

Modern Times Orderville - Good. Typical Mosiac IPA.

Honestly, the Rocheforts were like a cheat code, but I will NEVER complain about an opportunity to drink Rochefort 10... If you twisted my arm, I would probably rate it as my favorite Belgian beer (there may be better ones that I have yet to try - but this is a great **** beer. Respect.).

Went to Eleventh Hour tonight. Only recently found out it was owned by the Strzelczyk family (yes, the family of the former Steeler) - the son went to school with my younger brother.

Beer was pretty good. Had the blonde, sour, and one of their 3 NE IPAs.

I was actually going to go to 11th Hour on Friday as well. I looked at their tap list online... potentially the worst December tap list ever. Might as well have been July.

Speaking of Troegs, Mad Elf Grand Cru is excellent. Cherries are front and center and the spices compliment it well. More tart than sweet.
