KBS isn't life changing but it's Breakfast Stout that is masterfully aged in bourbon barrels and it's...worse?
Yeah, I don't get that at all.

Those rankings are silly, but it's good for discussion I suppose.

I actually like their more accessible breakfast stout over the KBS, as others have mentioned.

Nice to see Celebration getting some love...that's been one of my favorite, somewhat underrated beers for a while. Always get a case around the holidays.

That list is homebrewers, which is not necessarily a group that is out the lining up for the hip new thing. If there were any question about that, it's answered by the fact that Hopslam and Sculpin are included since both have gone down hill BIG time and are not very good anymore. It's also a dated list in that Pliny, Heady, and KBS rank where they do. I love all of those beers, but they are all on the negative hype train in recent times.

NE IPAs and sours are where it's at now in the hip/trendy beer styles. Heady is about the only one that fits into one of those categories.

1. Bell's Two Hearted
2. Russian River Pliny the Elder
3. Founders Breakfast Stout
4. 3 Floyds Zombie Dust
5. Bell's Hopslam
6. Founders KBS
7. The Alchemist Heady Topper
8. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA
9. Sierra Nevada Celebration
10. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

That list reads like it's from 2014. I think they are all really great beers. I think Bell's Two Hearted can make a great case for one of the best easily accessible ipas, but it looks silly being #1 in the world. I'm not a huge fan of fresh squeezed, so that doesn't fit on there for me. With so many amazing beers, it's kinda like having a best guitar players ever conversation.

I had another Gumball head last night and the more I drink that, the more I think it deserves to show up on some lists. I guess I can say the same for a lot of Brew Gents beers, I'd put those above a lot on that list. I have no problems with Founders Breakfast Stout being high on any list, I could drink that anywhere anytime. Also the 2017 KBS is fantastic.

KBS was excellent. Only had it for the first time this year, but definitely preferred it to the Breakfast Stout.

Barrel aged stouts don't improve with time, IMO.

I have a bunch of bourbon counties left from 2014. They are just sugar bombs now.

Well... if you don't want them I would be happy to clear the spot in your beer closet instead of you forcing yourself to drink that swill. :pop:

Working my way through this year's Beer Camp. So far I've had:

Thai Iced Tea - tea was pretty noticeable, I enjoyed it.
Raspberry Sundae - cocoa, vanilla, raspberry, lactose... desert beer all the way, but pretty good. Would be great w/ a brownie or something.
White IPA w/ Yuzu - If you've had a white IPA, it tasted like that w/ some citrus. Good, not amazing.
Ginger Lager - meh city. Might just not be my thing, but did nothing for me.
Dunkle Weisse - this was good. Sierra Nevada's hefe + Ayinger's dunkel weizen = good, of course.

Westy 8 was great. Dubbel style, sweet but richer and more mellow than typical.

La Trappe dubbel and quad both high quality.

Went to Mad Mex last night and their special 22 oz beers were from Flying Dog. Typically not a fan, but that size for $5? Sure, let's give it a go. I had the Lemon Drop and my wife had the Blood Orange. I tried both, and I gotta say. They were solid beers. Would definitely order again.

Finally made it over to Brew Gentleman. Good stuff. General Braddock IPA came as advertised. And the brisket from the Blowfish BBQ food truck enterprise was delicious.

Had the Dry Hopped Golden Ale from Beer Camp tonight. It was pretty good. The hops made it more interesting than a typical golden ale. Would drink again.

Is this a stay in good graces with your father on law purchase? If so, good work

Just buy the regular stuff.

Also: I have not had a Michelob in the 21st century.

Buy one of each. Ice them down, and the next time he's over, go outside and offer one to him. Whichever one he picks, that's the one. Or just ask him I guess.
