Not sure if that’s a reference to fat beer drinkers (I’m not fat) or large breweries.

The above mentioned beer is decent. I’d rather see breweries head in that direction than pumping out more and more IPAs laced with Pine Sol.

Destihl brewery (I think they're IL based) make a good hefeweizen.

Also my concussion and subsequent 6 week recovery has killed my tolerance. Probably a good thing in the long run.

Not be nanny state: are you still playing hockey? Messing with concussions can be a bad long run idea.

I am but I'm actively avoiding contact if I can.

It's only been 2 so it's not dire, but next one I am probably done with contact sports/sports with the potential for contact.

And I'm already working on my golf swing in preparation.

I have not been to this place, but need to make a trip soon.

The Bulls Head Public House in Lititz has been named the top beer bar in the country by the readers of 10Best.com, a travel website of USA Today. The results of the readers'-choice poll were announced Friday.

The British-style pub at 14 E. Main St. won the honor after a couple of weeks of voting among 20 nominees across the country.

The Bulls Head had jockeyed for the number one spot throughout the final week of voting with The Avenue Pub, New Orleans, which finished number 2 in the poll.

The Bulls Head, which is attached to the General Sutter Inn, was also recently named best beer bar in Pennsylvania for the third year in a row, based on readers' votes on CraftBeer.com. The pub recently celebrated its eighth anniversary.

Ha. I've been wanting to try this, actually. I've been saving for my upcoming Belgium trip and have been drinking a lot of lagers and Headhunter since they expanded to 6 packs (!), as opposed to spending $20/4 pack on local haze.

Don't get me wrong, I love love great neipas. The style certainly has a bandwagony obnoxiousness, though.

Drinking an Undead Goon. You can tell that this spent a solid amount of time in the barrel (1 year) as opposed to other BA beers which seem to barely get the lid on the barrel befor they start bottling out of the bottom.

I know there were more Slovaks than Czechs who moved to Pittsburgh, but are any of the boutique breweries there even taking a stab at Czech pilsners?

Related: Czech beer is some of the finest in the world and it’s annoyingly barely available in the US.

A buddy of mine is a Czech Pilsner fan. If you get any recommendations let me know.
Brew Gentlemen is releasing a Czech pils soon (sounds like next week), and it will be on cask at Piper's Thursday. If your buddy tries really hard, he might be able to get in and out with a growler without seeing or smelling any hops.
In the 1840s, as a wave of upheavals and revolts spread across the continent of Europe, the Bavarian town of Plzeň was in the throes of its own tiny upheaval: the citizenry had become increasingly upset with their city's substandard beer quality, and a new municipal brewery was established to start from scratch. Over the next 175 years, their solution to these woes would become the worldwide archetype for beer.

There's a good reason that the Czech pilsener, the world's first pale lager, became the poster child for all things beer. It is the very definition of simplicity and balance, a delicate interplay of bready malt, floral hops, and crisp carbonation. A beer this approachable was bound for widespread success.

BG Czech Lager succeeds BG Helles as our fourth lager, a series we've been extremely excited about. Our interpretation of the classic Bohemian pilsener is true to its roots: a crisp and refreshing beer with a light malt sweetness and an earthy, herbal hop character. Catch it on draft in the taproom and to go in growlers this week.

BEER

Beers I've tried so far this weekend:

De Glazen Toren Lentebier - Saison. This was pretty good, but a bit unusual, possibly because of the wheat malt? Not sure if that is a typical ingredient for this style or not.

Spencer Trappist Peach Saison - Meh. I've had all of their beers, and while they have some decent ones, this is not one of them. It fell into that abyss between beer and fruit where there is just enough fruit to distract from the flavor of the beer, but not enough to actually enjoy or enhance it.

Almanac Farmer's Reserve Blueberry - Despite the quality of the prior beers I've tried from them, this still caught me offguard. Typically, I've found blueberry sours to be lacking, as the blueberry seems to stand up well vs the sour... this, however, did. Frankly, the best blueberry sour I've ever tried.

Almanac Farmer's Reserve Strawberry - Similar to the blueberry, except it was strawberry. I'd put it slightly behind the blueberry, but it was still really good.

I have to say, anyone who likes sours, you have to get your hands on some Almanac... I'm going to hunt for some more myself. Damn good brewery.

Off tomorrow so I decided to pull something special out of the fridge for Easter... Deschutes The Dissident 2016 Reserve.

Brown ale brewed with cherries, 40% aged in French Oak wine barrels.

It was quite delicious and now I am still quite toasty.
