Go buy all of the Blackout Stout that you can... and then give them to me because they suck and you won't like them...
Oh, hell no. :P I love that beer.

My wife gifted me some hop rhizomes for my birthday. I never really thought about how to grow them, just figured I'd set up some tomato stakes or similar and go from there.

Yesterday the rhizomes arrived in the mail along with a book on the best way to grow them. These things grow up to 25 feet tall. Now I'm scrambling to figure out how I'm going to plant these things. Anybody with experience?

No experience, just saying: awesome. I can't wait until we buy a house because that'll be the first thing I plant.

I just started brewing my own beer, and don't expect to use all the hops (she bought 3 different types based on the silliness of their names). Once they mature, perhaps I can set up a 5AF sharing program.

Well, I do know not to expect much in the first year or two, so there's that. If you don't mind sharing, what are the 3 types?

Right, it'll be a couple years before I yield anything. There's a chinook for sure, and I believe a nugget and a fuggle.

Nugget and fuggle both do well in English style beers. Chinook is a go to for a lot of the piney/resiny IPAs. So they're an interesting combo to have available. I look forward to seeing how they grow for you. You're in the Burgh area, yes?

yes, in a burb of the burgh (not Steubenville). Hmm, not a big fan of either types of beer, but I'm willing to experiment. All I know is there are certain hops used to get the bitterness and others used to get the aroma. Chinook seems more like a bitter hop and the other two are perhaps more of an aroma hop??

Recently had a sixer of Deschutes Hophenge DIPA. It's apparently a limited-production beer, because it is brewed using the pulverized bones of HRC supporters; never in my life could I have imagined a liquid as bitter as this beer. I think it would make an effective shark repellent. You don't want to waste beer, but I would open the fridge and get a shiver thinking about popping the cap on another one.

Did someone try to get you to use something other than a pint glass?

I am not against various glassware, I just stand behind it not making an actual difference.

It's just that the website is trash and there is no notable difference between plastic cup samplings of generic stuff and actual special things. It seems that the vast majority of things on the site are actually nothing to write home about.

You deserve the hangover. I can't drink IC without needing to be 2 steps from a toilet the next day.

Hey now, I'm doing this for you and all the other pens fans. It's pretty obvious there is a correlation between me indulging in the magic of confluence river water and pens victories come cup runs. A little respect would be appreciated.
