BEER
Today had Brouwerij Alvinne Wild West Grape Edition. Tasted like a sour, dry, and fruity white wine/beer hybrid. I dug it.

?The best craft bottle/growler shop in town now is now allowed to serve/sell pints. So it's basically a bar too.

Yes? Is this a thing you've seen?
Um, all bottles hops and growler places?

The Rathskeller in State College is closing in the next few weeks.

Is this right? I would have thought something closer to Philly could claim this title. Both restaurants have played a prominent role in the State College community for decades. The Rathskeller is the longest continually operating bar in Pennsylvania, and is filled with memories that have covered many lifetimes.

It opened the day prohibition was repealed, so I'd imagine it'd be difficult to claim to be the longest continually legally operating bar.The Rathskeller in State College is closing in the next few weeks.

Recent beers:
Petrus Aged Pale Ale. Nice, solid sour. Had a bit of an apple cider vinegar thing going on. Hid the alcohol well in taste, but I knew it was there after I drank it. Have 3 others by them to try soon.
Bell's Winter White Ale. As you know, I am not much of a Bell's fan. This did little to move the needle. I did have hopes that it would be more interesting based on how cloudy it poured, but it was just "fine".

Tonight was Rivertowne's Ocelot of Honey. I wasn't expecting much, so it wasn't that bad. I was worried seeing honey in the name that it might be obnoxiously sweet, but it really wasn't sweet at all... seemed pretty balanced. Not sure I'd drink it again, but I enjoyed it more than the Bells from last night (in that it was at least somewhat interesting).

Fantome Dark White.
It's not quite as good as their Saison, which is just stupid good, easily the best I've had of the style... but it's still pretty damn good.

BEER
For anyone that stops through state college, Happy Valley Brewing has really started to figure things out. I was one of their harshest critics when they started out, but over the past 3-4 years the beer has really evolved into some great stuff.
Had a belgian golden ale last night made with lemon drop hops and pineapple. The smell certainly gave citrus and pineapple, so I was worried it was going to be really sweet. It wasn't. Nice and crisp and dry.
Also had their yearly imperial oatmeal stout that has molases, fig, cocoa nibs, and cinnamon. Really good beer for the winter, and at 10% abv, it'll keep you warm. Certainly a great deal for only $6 a pour.

Traquair Jacobite Ale. Scotch ale. It's good, a bit different due to the coriander and barrel... not as good as Old Chub, however.

I can't fathom paying that much for a beer.

The really hazy and juicy stuff (new england IPA style) basically comes from the source only,if packaged, or potentially on draft relatively near the source. Definitely have to hit up the NEIPA style to really experience the juice!I got a juicy IPA from Hi-Wire in Asheville. This style interests me. What others should o seek out?

My amazing wife managed to grab tickets to Cantillon's Quintessence festival this year. It's an every other year thing, and occasionally they invite a guest brewery. This year's festival they have invited Hill Farmstead. Might wind up being the coolest beer event of my lifetime! Brussels in May--can't wait!
