Normally, a timeout with 3 seconds left will only yield a chucked up 3 at the buzzer by someone playing hero-ball. That was pretty impressive what that guard did by recognizing the double team and hitting Key under the hoop for the winner.

My boys walked into the state capital of New York and whacked the Scooby Doos by 21. I can't say that I've seen a Towson team in the last 6-7 years look like the one I saw tonite. Hopefully, that can continue.

Bad night for the ACC -- GTech lost to Miami...of Ohio (MACTION!), Virginia got cannonballed by Navy, and our friends from Pitt got smoked at home by The Citadel...UC San Diego (that's not the Aztecs nor the Toreros) got their first D-1 road win by beating Cal, who apparently wishes they had the COVID issues of their football team after this result...Duke's freshmen are gonna give K a pretty good sendoff if they keep playing like they did vs Kentucky.

Decent first night overall. Now that I have ESPN+, my remotes will be getting even more of a workout this season.

@Orlando Penguin good point. I was mostly upset with the way they switched that screen and vacated the post but the OSU player deserves some props and reading that and executing so quickly. Frustrating to watch.

MACtion made some more noise last night - NIU wins at Washington, and OU beat up Belmont pretty good

There are only a handful of P5 teams worse than Mizzou in KenPom.

Pitt, by far, is the worst at 170th.

BTW, Penn State got destroyed by UMass by 25 points last night too. It is not a good time for PA sports fans.

1st college hoops game in 21 months tonight. USC 78, Florida Gulf Coast 61. Hoping to get a dozen games in various locations this season.

I watched way more of that than I should have spent my time on. Hoping the new guy can turn the team around but I said that about Chambers, and DeCellis, and Dunn, and whoever else has coached the team since Lock Haven’s Bruce Parkhill.

Shrewsberry also lost 3 really good players to transfer. Had he kept those guys around, this would be an upper-division team in conference.

Yes sir. Hoping I will be done with work and back to the hotel by tipoff. Still not sure about what we have and what Pitt’s got so this will be a nice barometer going into a real tough stretch of games over the next 2 weeks.

So f'ing frustrated after that game. We lose games against 'name' teams the same way every damn time -- missing free throws and settling for 3's instead of trying to get midrange shots or into the lane. 10 of 18 from the line ain't getting it done. We were the better team for about 35 minutes tonight but they weren't better when they had to be and that's where the lost.

#1 Zags vs #2 UCLA tonight in a rematch of that classic OT tourney game from last year

Took all of about 5 game minutes for that one to be a runaway. UCLA had plenty of open looks early and clanked them. Zags have even more weapons than last year. They get another chance to impress on Friday when they play Duke.

Didn't expect UCLA to never be in that one. Zags mean business. Can they close the deal in April?

Good to see Dickie V back. He annoys me sometimes but he's an icon.

I always say that it’s about matchups and Baylor had the right setup in the title game in April. But it feels like this Zags team has more complete personnel than last year’s. However, that conference has upgraded. After Gonzaga’s win last nite, the top 5 in the WCC - BYU, USF, St Mary’s, Santa Clara - are 27-0. It’s gonna be a war out there and LMU and USD are no slouches either.

As for Vitale, it was very touching to see him back last nite and the emotion is very genuine. I got to be around him and work with him during Final Fours and what you see on TV is exactly what you get when the red light isn’t on. I wouldn’t want to be him because I dislike most people so I wouldn’t want to have a constant stream of fans coming up to me. As many have said, he’s the soundtrack to college hoops and if he’s a bit over the top, go for the mute button.
