I guess outside of adding another 1B/OF/DH bat and a backup C, they are likely finished tinkering with the roster heading into training camp. Which is of course sad.

I think my only sort of condition for this team, is that they don't turn the season into an extended tryout for a very specific group of players. Basically, the cohort below that is currently on the 40-man roster, either they show something in camp and actually earn playing timey, or you are out. Two categories for these players "No leash" - if you suck in camp or in April, DFA. "Some leash" - you are awarded some suck. Guys like Castro and Contreras I am not considering, because they can just go to the minors. I am not sure I can handle and level of front-office devotion to all the guys they've dumpster dived for.

No Leash:
Kranick, Howard, Crowe, Banda, Peters, Wilson, Park, Oliva, Allen, Hanhold, Mears, Chavis
Some Leash: Brubaker, Yajure, Cederlind, Thompson, Keller
Should Alford be on this list as well?
yeah, from the follow up post:

Forgot about some important ones.

Alford, Tucker - No leash
Gamel - Some leash

And another SS:
The 6’5″ 230 pound corner outfielder now appears set to sign with the Pirates alongside the #12 prospect shortstop, Yordany De Los Santos. Adding these two to an already deep Pirate farm system will further solidify it as one of the best in all of baseball.

Every couple of years there is a guy like wander Franco or Jason Dominguez, who are can’t miss. While these two, and Polanco from last year are higher profile, they are still dart throws.

Will definitely see how they do in their dsl seasons, but definitely wouldn’t automatically expect them to progress.

Thought that was common knowledge. Without looking it up, their owner also owned the cardinals(?) and decided to cut all their good players so the Pirates (née Alleghanies) could sign them. Believe Honus Wagner was one of the guys.

Henry Davis at 41 seems low but 6 in the top 100 isn't bad at all. My brain isn't in baseball mode to think of the other prospects that may have been close to making it

Why is priester ranked so low? Has he just been whelming in A ball?

2021 buzz prospect that didn't meet expectations. The peripherals are a bit underwhelming beyond his good era from high A.

I wouldn't consider any other guys close to making a top-100 list. There are a few different buckets.

Swaggerty, Bolton and Yajure are older prospects that have pedigree, but are sort of beyond prospect ranks, if they show anything in the minors next year they will be on the major league team.

Swulinski, Bae, Castro, Castillo and Smith-Njiba are kind of in the same boat, but didn't have much buzz in prior years, they are more likely to get promoted and contribute in the majors than be a highly ranked prospect.

And there is a decently large bucket of potential breakouts that are guys that have to actually breakout before they'll get any buzz for prospects lists (the 2021 prep draft picks and a bunch of international guys that played low-a and below last year).

Same top 4 but they rank within the top 38 at prospectus. Only Contreras coming in after at 89.

Man people are bullish on Cruz.

I am so pumped about Peguero and Gonzalez. How sick would that middle infield be?

If we have Davis catching plus an infield of Cruz, Gonzalez, Peguero, Hayes... dayum

Gonna be pretty exciting in a couple years. Just need some pitching help to come along, assuming the above scenario mostly plays out

Gonzalez’s bat seems almost certain.

Cruz buzz is pretty crazy, I think there are still some questions though.

Pitching is going to have to come from outside, unless something crazy happens with the current absurd collection of guys they have on the 40 man.

Fangraph list. Easily the best-non paywalled review. Actually, probably better than any paywall one as well.
