I hate this guy.
This is less about his baseball abilities and more about the fact that he's a fat **** pig but still a professional athlete.

I think the collection of pitchers they break ST with is "up in the air" and that is about as generous as you can be with that. They have about 5 guys that have truly earned a major league roster slot, and about 10 of the same guys that are interchangeably bad.
But I think the set of position players is set (with the Cruz buzz comfortably out of mind, he can start in AAA for service time reasons).
C: Perez
1B: Yoshi
2B: Chavis / Tucker
SS: Newman
3B: Hayes
LF: Gamel
CF: Reynolds
RF: Alford / Allen
DH: Vogelbach
Bench 2 of Chavis/Tucker/Alford/Allen, Park, Backup C.
I guess there's a chance that they expand roster and they carry 13 position players, and in that case, I imagine it will be either Castro or Castillo.

like Perez/Gamel/Alford - it doesn't cost that much to upgrade those spots to a reasonably watchable guy

I think Perez was fine to bring in to replace Stallings. But, that's assuming this pitcher they got from the Marlins is actually a legit starting pitcher, and not just a passable cheap option. I gather that getting Thompson was the key driver of that deal, because the two prospects don't do much more than add to the stock.like Perez/Gamel/Alford - it doesn't cost that much to upgrade those spots to a reasonably watchable guy
But yeah, the Newman/Tucker/Alford/Gamel/Chavis/Allen/Castro portion of the 25-man roster is just depressing. I really don't believe there is actual belief any of these guys max out beyond "above" replacement level. I guess my hope is that 2022 is the year they officially cut ties with most of them.

Tucker has spent the extended offseason living it up with Vanessa Hudgens. I'll be stunned if he makes the 25 man roster out of spring training.

I do wonder if they will keep Cruz on the roster to try and garner some interest in the team, because I can't even imagine any other reason to watch this current roster play baseball. Maybe when Contreras starts? But he's also likely to start the year in the minors so the can "take a long look" at Wilson, Peters, Crow....etc

He is apparently a walking torn hamstring, so keeping him relegated to DH is the ideal scenario for this guy, he does have one legit offensive year under his belt for the mariners.

Jfc this new guy is fat. He makes Sandoval look like a picture of health.
BR has his career OWAR at 1.4. That’s something at least.0.0 WAR in 919 career at bats for this new guy.

Worse OWAR than Colin Moran and a worse career avenue, slugging and on base than Moran. Conclusion: he stinks.

More crap:
The 6-foot, 270-pound Vogelbach hit 30 of his 49 career home runs with the Seattle Mariners in 2019. He played the past two seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers, where he worked with new Pirates hitting coach Andy Haines and batted .219/.349/.381 with nine homers and 24 RBIs in 93 games last season.

He missed two+ months with a hamstring injury
He should be serviceable when healthy, but guys like this are a dime a dozen, they will produce when fully healthy, but every injury is a season long struggle. It will be like a fat white Polanco.

Well you'd hope, if he's just there to DH, there'd be less opportunity for him to tear a hammy

He signed for 1mm or so, so I guess we can't expect much.
