only one rule: no (excessive or serious) shaming. We can joke fine but I will likely post different degrees of facetious and serious confessions. For me and for others, let’s try to make this a, dare I say it, safe-enough space
Punishment for violating the rule will result in 50 self-applied lashes. You’re on the honor system

Man, I love late spring driving around with my music blasting. Usually turn it down a little at a light, but only because of the type of music I listen to.I’m that person that rolls around town blasting music from my car with my winfoss down. I know it’s annoying but it’s too much fun

I’m a slave to internet reviews
whenever I travel I look up restaurants on Google maps and refuse to go to any that has less than a 4.2 rating. I can’t watch a movie for the first time without checking its IMDB first. When I go to stores I often Amazon search the product to see if I can read the Amazon reviews of the product right in front of me (filtered using a review checker, of course. Amazon has no shame for fake reviews)
is anyone else like this? It’s a little weird because it’s hard for me to do something without reading someone’s opinion first but it also helps make sure I don’t waste my time on some dumb bullshit

I’m the same way. Specifically with Amazon, you do have to read through some reviews, and filter on verified purchases, rather than relying solely on the star rating.
I’ve used TripAdvisor for restaurants while traveling, and can only think of maybe one restaurant that we really didn’t like compared to the score.

You actually reminded me of a time I got **** over by not looking at reviewsI’m the same way. Specifically with Amazon, you do have to read through some reviews, and filter on verified purchases, rather than relying solely on the star rating.

My brother, sister in law and I were in Rome. We wanted to find a restaurant “organically” and without looking online. We find a place and eat there. Long story short, they overcharged us aggressively (we paid like €60 for a small appetizer of Calamari; total came out to be €200+ for mediocre food). As were paying, we look at Trip Advisor after the meal and see the restaurant had a 1/5 rating. We look at each other like “what the ****, we should’ve looked at the reviews beforehand”. I think my SIL disputed the charge on her credit card

Was it by any chance near the Vatican?

Yeah, I guess it can happen anywhere in Rome. Ordering a caffè without checking the menu first is a mistake I made only once.

oh I have another 5AF confessional from that trip too (has a Rylan’s thread of love 6.9 crossover too)
we went to another restaurant like the day before and our waitress was a cute Albanian girl. I ordered limoncello shots and she…brings the bottle and leaves it on our table and then goes back to serve other tables. I took more than one shot.
She then comes out later and she and my group talk. Her sister, also cute as a button, comes out and talks with us too. They teach us Albanian language and culture. I teach them that 5’6” is tall for an American. I get a verbal “agreement if the first waitress wanted to hang out the next night and hit up some bars
The next day my pansy ass felt too weird about ditching my brother and sister in law to try to do the no pants dance with the Albanian bird. Opportunity failed.

When my wife and I travel, we ALWAYS check TripAdvisor first. I do feel bad about doing it at times.

my siblings’ and my gift for my parents this Xmas was digitized copies of all the VHS/Super 8 home videos that have been taken since the 60s up until the mid 00s
We were watching them and it makes me sad that we (as in humans) don’t really document things the same way that we used to. Rarely do we take long form “slice of life” videos. It’s more a one to two minute video that we send in snapchat or post on Facebook of something in particular
while there is orders of magnitude more photos and videos of my nieces and nephews being taken, I don’t know how many will really exist long enough for them to see them when they’re adults
