I dunno, this was the first Christmas we've had where we didn't video every gift that was opened. While I explained every year that I always felt I was missing out due to being the designated videographer, I got shut down every time.
I'm not sure we have a lot of video of anything else, but if my kids opened a sweater in 2011, we have it immortalized.

Yeah, my parents took a lot of home video when we were kids. I did, too, when my daughter was younger, but stopped a while ago for no specific reason. I probably take 99% of my videos on vacation and that’s it.my siblings’ and my gift for my parents this Xmas was digitized copies of all the VHS/Super 8 home videos that have been taken since the 60s up until the mid 00s
We were watching them and it makes me sad that we (as in humans) don’t really document things the same way that we used to. Rarely do we take long form “slice of life” videos. It’s more a one to two minute video that we send in snapchat or post on Facebook of something in particular
while there is orders of magnitude more photos and videos of my nieces and nephews being taken, I don’t know how many will really exist long enough for them to see them when they’re adults

We are big time “live in the moment” people and I will not watch big events for my kids through my phone screen. We also don’t pose for pictures. My MIL is a huge “look here and say cheese” person and it is annoying af. She tries to do this after every gift the kids open and I have to shut her down constantly.
Almost all the photos we have are candid except for the professional shots.

I differ on the photos thing. I always make sure I get family photos during the holidays, and always take a pic of my daughter every birthday. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm OK with posed pics but have no interest in lessening the moment thru video so I can relive it later.

I'm with meow. What am I gonna do...watch 33 seconds of a blurry Glitch Mob show later...? No. I was there, that's good enough.

I make exceptions for big presents. I videoed my daughter opening her Hamilton tickets and it was priceless. Why my wife needed a pic of my son with the gray long sleeved tee "Santa" got him, I have no idea.

Fwiw, if I do video something, I use a tripod and just have it setup in a corner. Ain’t nobody got time for sitting there with a video camera.

I photograph a lot of things of my kid, and video the major moments. I find that those videos are a lot of wasted time of just sitting there talk/doing nothing. I suppose that's nostalgia, but it takes up space...

Mrs Tif despises 'candid' photos. I am of the opinion that posed photos (outside of aforesaid professional shots) are useless tokens that just waste time. We have reached an accord on the matter, which mainly comprises me being much more stealthy in the way I obtain in-the-moment images. Which sounds creepy now that I've typed it out like that.We are big time “live in the moment” people and I will not watch big events for my kids through my phone screen. My wife recorded my then two year old son playing in the bathtub (no nudity, pervs). Just six minutes of him talking about his favorite Thomas trains, friends at daycare, etc. It somehow ended up on our Plex Media server, so we watch it all the time. It was a complete throwaway video at the time, but we relish it because it’s just an ordinary moment - not a birthday, Christmas, holiday. Just my now 13 year old chillin’ in the tub.

I strongly disagree with y’all
I think it’s absolutely important to appreciate the moment but man am I glad the home videos we have exist. One of them we were watching yesterday was of my family at my old grandparents house in Brooklyn. My grandpa died in 2014 and my grandma is on her last legs in the nursing home (as I talked about in the RIP thread). It was wonderfully comforting to “see” them again, as I remember hem from 25 years ago
Also some videos of just my siblings and I hanging out in the backyard playing baseball and riding bikes around. Of course we have the full array of Christmas home movies and whatnot but I’m glad I can always look back at what our life was like growing up (I have five siblings and we’ve always been close)
Of course there’s a time and a place for it all. Documenting every single aspect of life is dumb but not documenting any of it is unhealthy too imo. All about the balance and understanding what future you (and future family members) would appreciate in photos and videos

These recent confessions are boring.
When I'm changing clothes and my cat Hershey is sitting on my bed (a common occurrence), I like to turn around, bend over, and show him my butthole just to pay him back for all of the times he does it to me.

The well thought out, intelligent OSHA post and this post possibly being back to back is just outstanding. Bravo.

I'm glad Shyster's post took the turn it did. Before the "bend over" clause, we were heading into dangerous territory.

I love Paw Patrol. when I'm hanging out with my nieces and nephews I'll ask if they want to watch it just so I have a reason to put it on.
it's not as mature as a Bluey (which I also love) but it's a show I know I would've adored as a kid. the theme song is so fun and the fact that they change up the combos of dogs every time tickles me

I monopolize the remote whenever I’m hanging out with people (mostly family) and we’re watching tv. Almost always the remote will be in my hands
not just that but I’m the type of person who will watch something until commercial and then change the channel to something else so I don’t have to watch ads. It’s a very frenetic tv experience but I love it

Especially because he's been trying to go up on girls (waka waka!) during the last two Pens playoff games....I figured he was gonna come in here and say, "give pegging a chance, dude bros" instead of "I change the channel during commercials" ...oh really? Pump the brakes there Mad Max, that kind of crazy lifestyle is unsustainable...
